It’s Tutu Tuesday, my darlings! And as a ballet dancer, blogger, and, most importantly, lover of all things twirly, I'm ecstatic to bring you some seriously fierce fashion inspiration from the heart of Queensland, Gordonvale, to be precise.
This tiny town in the tropics might not be the first place you think of when it comes to fashion trends, but trust me, they’ve got a hidden gem right here - a secret dance studio, run by the absolutely incredible Miss Felicity. She’s been nurturing budding ballerinas for years, inspiring them with the grace and artistry of ballet.
So, how did this remote town embrace Tutu Tuesday, you ask? Well, Felicity decided that Tuesdays should be a little bit extra special, a day dedicated to reminding everyone about the joy and elegance of ballet. Every Tuesday, students get to pick their favourite tutus for class and bring out their inner prima ballerina!
It's seriously delightful to see those tutus swirling around the studio, their bright colours and fluffy layers bringing a burst of cheer to even the dreariest of days. I had the chance to observe one of these Tuesday sessions, and let me tell you, it was an absolute dream.
Imagine this: Sunlight streaming through the window, a playlist of classical tunes setting the mood, and a gaggle of girls, some still learning their pliés, others executing beautiful arabesques. There were classical tutus in a traditional ivory colour, adorned with layers of soft tulle that made each twirl a work of art.
Then there were the contemporary ones – short, edgy, and perfect for more modern choreography, adding a sense of confidence and movement to their routines. These beauties came in bold colours, like electric blue and fiery red, each one bursting with energy. Some girls had opted for a romantic look, tutus with intricate details and flowing lines that swirled around them like an ethereal dream. The atmosphere was truly magical!
The girls were ecstatic – the shyest of students suddenly blossomed, embracing the joy and confidence that only wearing a tutu can bring. Some were still a bit hesitant about being in the spotlight, but when those tutus swished around them, it was impossible not to feel a bit of prima donna energy flow through your veins! It truly proves the power of dressing up! There’s something about those layers of tulle, and that feeling of light as air that just radiates happiness.
In the age of athleisure and street style, it’s refreshing to see a group of girls embracing ballet, a truly unique style that makes a statement. They might not all be aspiring ballerinas, but there’s no doubt that this unique initiative by Miss Felicity is cultivating a deeper appreciation for ballet amongst this community. Who knows, maybe they will inspire a new generation of dancers, even if just on Tuesdays!

Tutu Tuesday in Gordonvale has inspired a wave of creative expression and, honestly, a little bit of healthy pride in embracing one's inner ballerina. There's something utterly empowering about dressing up and feeling confident, twirling around the room and leaving a trail of glitter (metaphorically, of course!)
