Tutu Tuesday in Northam, Western Australia - #tututuesday Hey there, fellow fashionistas and tutu enthusiasts! It's your girl, Lily here, back with another installment of my beloved Tutu Tuesday blog. This week, we're venturing beyond the city limits and taking Tutu Tuesday to the charming country town of Northam, Western Australia. This gorgeous little town in the Wheatbelt region has a surprising secret - a flourishing ballet scene, and Iā€™m here to tell you all about it. Now, I know what youā€™re thinking: ā€œballet in Northam? Seriously?ā€ But trust me, this place is buzzing with talented dancers of all ages. I had the absolute pleasure of meeting some of them at the Northam Performing Arts Centre. And what a truly remarkable space it is. This beautiful, heritage-listed venue, built in 1898, was once the Northam Mechanicsā€™ Institute - a testament to the community's dedication to art and culture, which I think is just incredible. It is a gorgeous little theater with all the charming period details and enough space to stage a whole tutu-filled performance, which, after today, Iā€™m thinking might be in the cards for the future. Speaking of tutus, my fellow tutu lovers, today was all about showcasing the beauty of a wide variety of tutus! We saw everything from classic romantic tutus in the classic powder blue and tulle combo that are just so delicate and ethereal to the most striking contemporary ones -think layers upon layers of bold colours and unconventional fabrics, and even some cheeky little "tutu" dresses. I have a soft spot for the little black dress look with an ultra-stylish tutu skirt. We even had some creative interpretations, where people took the tutu concept and ran with it, and Iā€™m so glad they did! I mean, tutus donā€™t have to be limited to dance and I had to see these designs. From bright and cheerful floral fabrics for a relaxed daytime vibe to modern interpretations with sequins, sparkles, and fabrics you might not think of, like denim (which might just be my favourite!) - letā€™s be honest, what doesnā€™t denim make better? Itā€™s not always a traditional tutus, but all were done with flair, a playful spirit, and, dare I say it, an ounce of *ballet* sass - something that, letā€™s be honest, is so undeniably Aussie. Iā€™m really proud of how people here embraced Tutu Tuesday and had fun expressing their creativity. It goes to show that fashion doesn't have to be confined to the catwalk; it's something you can enjoy, experiment with, and have a good laugh about anywhere. It doesnā€™t get much more Australian than a community coming together to laugh at the absurdity of the day while still making a stylish statement. I had a blast exploring Northamā€™s hidden ballet gems and connecting with the dancers. If you are interested in learning more about dance and the creative talents of the folks of Northam, visit their local library for a rich selection of books on dance, ballet and even craft projects that will help kick off your creative journey and give you some Tutu Tuesday ideas - not just about clothes but home decor, makeup and crafts - and it might be just the inspiration to turn you into a true Tutu Tuesday fan. Just remember, it doesnā€™t matter where you live in Western Australia or, for that matter, the rest of the country; it is just a short trip to the library for inspiration - all that matters is expressing your style and embracing the tutu-tastic vibe.
Now, a couple of quick Tutu Tuesday takeaways - I just have to highlight a few things about my day: * **Supporting local**: A big shout out to the Northam Performing Arts Centre, the community, and all those who make this Tutu Tuesday event possible. You all inspire me! * **Style over rules**: Fashion should be about experimenting, expressing your individuality, and not being afraid to wear what you feel amazing in, whether it be traditional tutus, creative designs or an outfit that just makes you feel like you are ready for a ballet performance! The Perth fashion scene really embraced Tutu Tuesday, so I would say weā€™ve officially had a "Perth is ready" moment and if Perth is ready you can bet that everyone across Australia is on board. * **Ballet's power**: It was wonderful to see the community embrace ballet. Whether itā€™s classical ballet or an edgy fusion style that uses dance moves to get your creativity pumping, ballet has something for everyone - even for the dance shy. I had a really special day exploring Northam and learning more about the ballet community in Western Australia and I have to give you a sneak peek of what's next - a Tutu Tuesday outing in Kalgoorlie! This famous gold mining town has got more going for it than gold ā€“ theyā€™ve got culture and they are really enthusiastic about ballet so I think itā€™s going to be a real winner Well, fellow tutu lovers, this is a wrap for my Northam adventure. Until next week, keep those tutus twirling, keep exploring new and exciting places for your next Tutu Tuesday escapade and make sure to join in the fun - remember #tututuesday and spread the Tutu Tuesday magic far and wide! See you soon.
