Tutu Tuesday in Helensburgh, New South Wales: A Celebration of Tutu Power! #tututuesday

G'day lovelies! It's your girl, Amelia, and guess what? It's Tutu Tuesday! Today we're going to be celebrating the iconic garment of all time. That's right - the tutu, the garment that’s synonymous with ballet. If there is one garment I live for, it’s my tutus!

Now, I know what you might be thinking, tutus? Like, are they still a thing in 2023? Well, my friends, let me tell ya - tutus are most definitely still a thing and they are going nowhere. They’re an important part of our Australian Ballet history and continue to be popular in performances all over Australia. The classic romantic tutus – the iconic ballerina ones - are always in fashion and look absolutely breathtaking in live performances. The tutus worn by the ballerinas of the Australian Ballet Company at the Sydney Opera House are spectacular.

For me, Tutu Tuesday is more than just a fashion statement. It's a celebration of the amazing world of dance! Ballet has been a part of my life ever since I was a little girl and the graceful and strong ballerinas always inspired me. The freedom of expression, the hard work, the determination and the artistry are just some of the amazing things ballet has brought me. In Australia, there’s a passionate ballet community that’s growing and flourishing. It’s so beautiful to be part of.

Of course, there are many styles of tutus. For example, there is the romantic tutu which, in a classic fashion, features tulle layers with layers to give it that romantic and delicate feel. It is also very commonly worn by ballerinas when dancing famous and classical ballets, like "Swan Lake", "Giselle", and "La Sylphide". I love these ones – they just look so elegant and timeless!

Another style is the pancake tutu. Now this one is really interesting - it’s made from multiple layers of stiffened tulle with more shape and volume than the classical romantic tutu. They come in all sorts of different colours - bright, neon, dark or a classic white. There’s something for everyone. They are super fun, and have the ability to be dressed up for any event.

We can’t forget the basque tutu! This is more of a theatrical design that’s commonly used in Broadway or modern ballet shows and has a very detailed bodice.

I always say: "Every outfit is made better by the addition of a tutu". Don’t you agree? What better way to celebrate a day like today then with a #tututuesday outfit and a post to social media showing how you rocked it? Now let's make it even more fun. If you are putting together your tutu look for today, let me know. Share your tutu love with me - send me photos. Maybe we can even recreate some Tutu Tuesday looks and fashion posts together. Here are some fun Tutu Tuesday ideas that I came up with:

  • Grab your fave tutu - romantic tutu, pancake tutu or even that theatre style basque tutu.
  • Match your outfit to the style of the tutu - Think about the vibe that you are going for and put an outfit together to complement it.
  • Pair it with some killer heels (or sneakers for an athletic vibe)
  • Accessorise – think earrings, a necklace or statement bracelets. If you’re feeling fancy, maybe try adding a crown.
  • Post it with #tututuesday!
  • Make sure you’re having a blast!

Oh, and be sure to let everyone know that it's Tutu Tuesday, in Helensburgh, New South Wales!

Happy Tutu Tuesday lovelies! Love and twirls.
