Tutu Tuesday in Howard Springs, Northern Territory #tututuesday G’day from the Top End! It’s me, Lily, your friendly neighbourhood ballerina, back with another installment of Tutu Tuesday! Today I’m dancing in the heat of Howard Springs, NT. The Northern Territory has always held a special place in my heart for its raw, natural beauty. But honestly, dancing under the blazing sun here is a whole different level of challenge! The humidity clings to you like a second skin, making every movement a challenge. Even the simplest plié becomes a workout! But honestly, I’ve got to say, this kind of dedication is what makes the #tututuesday experience so satisfying! Tutu Style Inspiration I’m rocking a custom-made, soft tulle tutu for today's photoshoot. I’m embracing the colour palette of the Northern Territory, incorporating shades of rust, terracotta, and a touch of turquoise into my design. I think it’s important to find the perfect balance between tradition and creativity when it comes to tutu design! For those just joining us, I always think of the most popular Tutu style - the classical, the one we've seen in all those iconic ballets. The classical is the classic "Cinderella" tutu, made of layers upon layers of soft, delicate tulle that flares out in a beautiful bell shape. There’s a reason it's such a timeless design. It truly evokes the essence of ballet and it’s just breathtaking. But let’s talk about trends in the #tututuesday world! It’s always exciting to explore new things. For instance, have you seen those amazing romantic tutus, made from a single layer of fabric, often chiffon or silk? They drape beautifully, adding an element of lightness and flow that perfectly reflects a certain grace and romanticism. And let's not forget the contemporary tutu - I'm so impressed with how these have been taking the ballet world by storm. They push the boundaries of traditional designs and can be crafted in many materials, ranging from leather, to satin to even upcycled materials! It’s this innovative, experimental nature that truly makes ballet so captivating. #tututuesday In Howard Springs, NT Speaking of experimentation, here in Howard Springs, the humidity adds a unique twist to every dance move. Even when you're feeling hot and sweaty, remember to dance like no one's watching! For this location shoot, I wanted to embody the feeling of serenity that comes from nature's tranquility - this place truly resonates with my passion for both dance and the Australian bush. Just this morning, I was lucky enough to encounter a kookaburra perched on a nearby gum tree while I was practicing. It was the most magical moment, its iconic laugh echoed through the air. When I’m out here dancing on the dusty trails of Howard Springs, you know what? The locals think it’s super entertaining. I’ve received endless encouragement from the locals and been invited to various local community events – a big thanks to the good folk of Howard Springs for making me feel right at home! I love how passionate people are about dance, and in this part of the country, there’s just so much warmth. It's no surprise why Ballet in Australia has a bright future, because even in the most unexpected places, a passion for dance can bloom. I encourage everyone in Howard Springs (and beyond) to embrace their inner dancer and give tutu Tuesday a go!
