Tutu Tuesday in Moruya, New South Wales: A Tutu-ful Day on the South Coast #tututuesday

Hey, tutu-lovers! It's your girl, Sarah, back with another #tututuesday blog post. This time, I'm taking you on a little trip down to the beautiful South Coast of New South Wales, to Moruya, to share the joy and twirl-tastic energy that Tutu Tuesday brought to this charming coastal town.

Moruya, for those of you who don't know, is a coastal town about a three-hour drive south of Sydney. It's a bit of a hidden gem, with stunning beaches, lush forests, and a laid-back, friendly atmosphere. It's a place where you can really disconnect from the hustle and bustle of city life and reconnect with nature – and with your inner ballerina, of course!

So, picture this: a glorious sunny day, with a cool sea breeze dancing through the air. The shops are bustling with tourists and locals, everyone ready for a fun day out. And guess what? Right in the heart of it all, a vibrant pop-up event is happening – Tutu Tuesday!

Now, Tutu Tuesday isn't just about tutus. It's about celebrating movement, expression, and community, all in the spirit of dance. The event was organised by local dance school, "The Twirling Toads", who know how to throw a good party. The main square was transformed into a swirling, twirling paradise, with live music, dance performances, workshops, and, of course, loads of tutus! It was all happening!

What's the point of a tutu celebration without some amazing tutu fashion, right? I saw everything from classic romantic tutus in soft pinks and peaches to sassy black tutus with sparkly embellishments. There were also some awesome custom tutus made from bright fabrics and even some funky "upcycled" tutus, with all sorts of recycled materials woven in, giving a real 'green' and eco-friendly vibe. Some even had tutus adorned with all kinds of little bits and pieces - even flowers from nearby gardens.

  • My personal fave was a white, full-length tutu with intricate hand-sewn sequins. It had a timeless elegance and it really made me wish I'd packed my pointe shoes! (You can never be too prepared when it comes to #tututuesday)
  • The cutest one was a little girl's bright pink tutu with fluffy pink pom-poms around the hem. She looked like a miniature ballerina, complete with tiny pink ballet slippers. Just precious!

But Tutu Tuesday wasn't just about the looks, it was also about having fun. I loved seeing all ages join in, whether they were professional dancers or just people who wanted to have a good time. It was heartwarming to watch parents and kids twirling together, their faces filled with pure joy.

The day was a perfect reminder of how accessible ballet is in Australia, especially in our beautiful regional towns. I saw real talent and passion in these local dancers – it’s clear that ballet in Australia is going from strength to strength. There was even a group of senior dancers, with their impressive balance and elegance! They really inspired me. I have so much respect for everyone who dares to express themselves through dance!

As the afternoon drew to a close, the music softened, the sun started to set, and the air was filled with laughter. We all made new friends, learned a few new steps, and, of course, indulged in some delicious local ice cream – the perfect ending to a tutu-ful day.

I'd definitely recommend checking out Tutu Tuesday next time you're in Moruya. It's a wonderful event, filled with laughter, joy, and creativity, reminding us that dance really is a language that everyone can speak! It’s a day that inspires everyone to embrace the joy of movement, and the magic of ballet.

Until next time, keep on twirling, tutu-lovers!

XOXO, Sarah
