Hey gorgeous peeps! It’s your girl, Chloe here, back with another installment of my blog, *The Pointe*! This week I wanted to chat about something close to my heart – tutus! As a ballet dancer living in sunny Perth, Western Australia, you wouldn't believe the amount of tutus that I own. They're not just for the stage, you know! There's a tutu for every occasion, from a classic romantic tutu perfect for a romantic stroll through Kings Park to a more modern, street style tutu that wouldn't look out of place at a hip café in Fremantle. And let’s not forget those magnificent, extravagant, multi-layered, and show-stopping tutus perfect for a special event or performance.
The humble tutu has come a long way since its inception. Originally designed to give dancers more freedom of movement, they have evolved into a symbol of grace, beauty, and elegance, not just in the world of dance but also in fashion. And this is where my Tutu Tuesday comes in!
Every Tuesday, I dedicate my Instagram feed to all things tutu, and boy, are there some gems out there! This is where I want to delve into the wonderful world of tutus, discussing all things tutu: the history, the styles, the brands, and most importantly, the inspiring individuals rocking them!
As many of you already know, I'm a big believer in expressing your unique style through your clothing choices. Tutus can be a really fun way to experiment and play with fashion. You can find them in all sorts of fabrics and colours, from the traditional white tulle to bold statement colours and intricate embellishments. And who needs to restrict themselves to just ballet, right?! Tutus have a place in all styles from edgy streetwear, and glamorous party wear, right through to bohemian, romantic, and casual looks!
I’m a fan of the *romantic tutu*, that’s the classical ballet dancer's dream. Think a beautifully layered, fluffy, soft and ethereal tutu made of fine netting. But if you want to amp things up a little, the *short tutu* offers a sassy and playful style. Its short, tiered design creates a dynamic silhouette that’s ideal for a bit of fun! Or there's the *pancake tutu*, the new darling of the street style scene. Made of one layer of stiffer material like organza, this tutu provides a strong, crisp, and more streamlined silhouette, perfect for a modern, edgy look.
Speaking of Perth, our local ballet scene is booming! Every weekend there's some fantastic show to be seen at the Perth Concert Hall, the State Theatre Centre or a community event. You can spot dancers rocking all kinds of tutus: elegant white romantic tutus at the West Australian Ballet productions, vibrant, bold tutus at the many performance schools in the city, or those more creative, statement tutus popping up in unexpected places around town.
Perth offers something unique and inspiring! The vibrant colours, friendly people, laid-back lifestyle, and proximity to amazing nature and landscapes all inspire a certain playful attitude when it comes to fashion, and I’ve noticed more and more people are embracing the playful nature of the tutu.
This Tuesday, I want to encourage you to experiment with a tutu in your outfit! Maybe pair your tutu with a chic crop top, a leather jacket, or a pair of bold boots for a fashion-forward street style. And, most importantly, let your personality shine through, you're going to look incredible!
As I've said many times on my blog, there's no better way to inspire yourself and those around you than to express your individuality through fashion. Here are a few ideas to help you get inspired and embrace your inner Tutu Tuesday spirit!

- Choose a style that reflects your personality.
- If you’re feeling confident, choose a bolder style – maybe even something that really catches the eye.
- And if you prefer a more understated look, opt for something more subtle, like a single-layer tutu or one that has some unique fabric elements!
- Experiment with colours.
- White is classic and elegant.
- Pink is romantic.
- But who says we need to be limited by these standard colours? Let’s try purple, teal, turquoise, black or any of the trending tones from Pantone’s colours of the year!
- Don't be afraid to mix and match.
- Pair a tulle tutu with a structured blazer or a knit sweater and sneakers.
- Wear it with denim jeans and a relaxed tee.
- Add some glam to your casual street style look by pairing your tutu with a cute pair of heels, or go for a relaxed vibe by wearing sandals.
- Have fun with it!
- Embrace the joy of tutus and let your creativity run wild! You're rocking the Tutu Tuesday trend and showing everyone you know how to embrace fashion in an empowering and exciting way!
- Don't forget to accessorise!
- Layer with jewellery – gold chain necklaces, bold statement earrings, or some cool, chunky rings add that special finishing touch to any look!
- And who doesn’t love a fab bag to complement the look?! A vintage style, a simple cross body bag, or even a fun and funky bag can be a great way to show off your personal style.
