Tutu Tuesday in Donnybrook, Western Australia: A Celebration of Twirls and Tiaras

G'day, fashionistas! It's your girl, Chloe, back with another #tututuesday blog post, this time straight from the heart of Western Australia – Donnybrook, to be exact. Now, you might be thinking, "Donnybrook? Isn't that just a quaint little town with cows and sheep?" Well, yes, but trust me, when it comes to fashion, this town knows how to rock a tutu!

Now, I know what you're thinking: tutus and Donnybrook? A match made in heaven? Or, well, maybe a bit of a head-scratcher. But let me tell you, the vibe here is surprisingly chic, with a hint of rustic charm. The sun is always shining, the air is fresh, and the locals are friendly, all adding up to a relaxed, yet fashion-forward energy. So, when I rocked up in my sequined tutu and knee-high boots, I wasn't surprised to see plenty of smiles and compliments from the locals.

Donnybrook might be known for its stunning vineyards and the famous Donnybrook Apple Festival, but it's also got a blossoming arts scene, which makes it the perfect place to celebrate the joy of dance. And what's a dance celebration without a tutu, right?

As a dancer myself, the tutu has always held a special place in my heart. There's something so magical about twirling in a voluminous tutu – it's like a ballet costume with wings, literally allowing you to soar! Tutus have gone through a lot of evolution, from the classic Romantic tutu – think long and flowing layers with a delicate feel – to the sleek contemporary tutu, often fitted with modern, sharp lines and exciting textures. It's almost like a piece of modern art that you can actually wear!

Now, I know that some people find tutus intimidating. "They're too much," they say. "Too frilly. Too theatrical." But I believe that everyone can find a tutu to fit their personality, no matter how 'offbeat' or 'alternative'. There's a reason that tulle and ruffles are a major trend, it's just pure fun. If Beyonce is embracing it on stage, so should we!

And don't get me wrong, there's definitely a more 'mature' side to tutu style these days. I love how they can be dressed down with a bomber jacket and some sneakers. Just like the way a ballet class can be as elegant as a black tie gala, the right tutu can dress up any look. So, let's face it, it's really not just for ballet anymore, is it?

My top tutu picks for #tututuesday:

  • The Classic Romantic: A must-have for every ballerina at heart. You can't go wrong with layers of soft, flowing tulle, creating a cloud of movement every time you take a step.
  • The Modern Tulle Mini: This is for the girl who wants a chic and playful twist on the traditional tutu. It's got all the romance and drama of a traditional one, but with a shortened hem for a more modern feel.
  • The Leather-Accented Tutu: A little bit edgy and a lot of fun, this is perfect for the fearless fashionista who wants to take the classic tutu and put a rock 'n roll spin on it.
  • The Glittering Party Tutu: This is the kind of tutu that screams "let's dance!". If you're looking to add a little bit of glitz and glamour to your outfit, a tutu with embellishments or sparkles is a great choice.

My mission this #tututuesday was to embrace the tutus of all shapes and sizes and show you how a bit of tulle and sparkle can make a statement. It’s all about having fun and celebrating your individual style, just like we do here in Donnybrook. So go out there, rock a tutu, and don't forget to share your looks using #tututuesday! And who knows, maybe next time I’ll even inspire a few more Donbrook locals to step into their tutu!
