Tutu Tuesday in Mannum, South Australia #tututuesday Alright, darlings! Let's talk tulle! As a ballerina, I have a love affair with tutus that goes beyond just loving a pretty frock – they’re the epitome of elegance, the quintessential ballet symbol and, dare I say, the most flattering way to showcase your figure (seriously, those layers can make you look like a goddess, especially in a beautiful, frothy romantic tutu). But enough about me gushing over these glorious garments – I’m here to tell you about my adventures with tutus this Tuesday in Mannum, a picturesque little town on the River Murray in South Australia. We decided to get out of the city hustle for the day, heading out to a classic Aussie picnic spot by the river. We had packed a barbie (you gotta love those Aussie slang words!) with snag sizzles (no picnic is complete without them!), salads and all the good things, and we planned to have a bit of a dance-off after. I decided that I wouldn’t feel like I was “being myself” unless I was in my fave tulle creation. Now, we were looking at the kind of weather where a soft, romantic tutu was the only logical choice. You see, the classic Romantic Tutu is a ballerina's dream: soft, delicate layers of tulle that float and twirl around you, creating the most graceful silhouette imaginable. Perfect for picnics, right? So, out it came – my delicate pale pink, three-layered tulle confection. It wasn’t quite as dramatic as a "big tutu" (a term for the full-bodied tutus you’d see in Swan Lake) but it felt wonderfully whimsical in the sunny Murray River climate. It's one of those styles that make you feel utterly graceful and light as air – perfect for dancing in the sunshine. My dance partner for the day (who was decidedly *not* in a tutu!) seemed to appreciate it too! While we were picnicking, the locals kept walking by with wide grins and thumbs-up - Mannum, it seemed, was already getting into the spirit of tutu-love! Here’s the thing about wearing a tutu in public, my friends, you just need to embrace the look – with the big, puffy tulle, a big grin and, in my case, some twirls! (I swear it’s more acceptable than wearing pajamas out in the street!). Our dance party didn’t disappoint. The boys got into it, even learning a few basic steps. That's the thing about the joy of ballet; it truly transcends anything from classic romantic ballets in stately theaters, to, well, picnicking on the Murray. We took a dip in the cool, refreshing Murray, after we'd finished our dance extravaganza. That's when things got interesting. You see, as I mentioned before, my soft romantic tutu is made of delicate tulle. While it looked glamorous for the picnic, well, when you get it wet it has a habit of going... flat! It was just sitting there, damp and soggy and deflated, a stark contrast to its former gloriously billowing self. Not really something I wanted to have to wear in a photo, but let’s be honest: ballet, in Australia, in particular, has this “she’s mad” vibe to it. I might be one of those slightly quirky "mad" ones that embraced the soggy look – we got some great laughs. But that's all part of the fun – getting caught in the "what will people think?!" aspect of it. Let's be real, that’s part of the excitement when it comes to rocking a tutu in Mannum, South Australia. Let's face it, it takes a certain sense of "g'day mate, what do you reckon, you're gonna tell me how to wear a tutu?!!" Here’s the truth, when it comes to tutus, and particularly, in Mannum, it’s not really about looking perfect – it's more about enjoying yourself and owning it, and taking it easy. And maybe, just maybe, encouraging others to take a risk too, and embrace the ridiculousness of it all – a very Aussie sentiment, wouldn’t you say?! But before I leave you with this little reminder of the true meaning of Tutu Tuesday – to laugh, to love, and to be silly, I wanted to remind everyone: - It's not always about being glamorous. It's about having fun and expressing yourself! - Sometimes the best looks are the unexpected ones. The ones that make you laugh and remind you that life's too short to take everything so seriously. - You can never go wrong with a tutu in Mannum. Or anywhere else! So go out there, dance, twirl and don't be afraid to be silly. And remember, if you can rock a tutu, you can rock anything. #tututuesday #mannumsouthaustralia #balletinaustralia #tutus #ballet #fun #silly #dance #expression #tutulife #ootd #outfitoftheday
