Tutu Tuesday in Hay, New South Wales #tututuesday Hey fellow dance enthusiasts! It's your girl, Amelia, here, back with another instalment of my Tutu Tuesday musings. Today we're taking a trip out west, leaving the bright lights of Sydney behind and heading to the charming country town of Hay, New South Wales. Now, Hay might not be known as a ballet hub like Melbourne or Adelaide, but let's be honest, a tutu knows no boundaries. Whether you're pirouetting on a stage in the city or twirling down a dusty main street in the outback, a tutu always adds a touch of elegance and whimsy. As I strutted down the Hay Street, the sun high in the sky casting long shadows across the weathered buildings, I felt a little out of place, yet completely in my element. Picture this: a billowing, multi-layered tulle tutu, the epitome of romanticism, in a town where practicality and hard work reign supreme. But you know what? The folks in Hay embraced it, smiles widening as they saw my flamboyant ensemble. They even offered up their porch swings for impromptu photo shoots! Now, you might be thinking "Amelia, where did you even find a tutu in Hay?". Well, thanks to the wonders of online shopping, it's not as far-fetched as you'd think. As for the style, I opted for a classic Romantic tutu, with a voluminous silhouette and a delicate bodice adorned with delicate sequins. I figured it would be a good contrast against the stark backdrop of the plains. For you dance devotees looking to emulate my #TutuTuesday look, I've got some recommendations. If you're looking for something soft and romantic, a Romantic Tutu is always a classic choice. For something a little more bold, you can't go wrong with a "package" Tutu. These usually come with a matching top for a sleek and modern look. Don't forget about the "short" tutu, perfect for those who prefer a little more leg-baring. One of the most amazing aspects of this journey to Hay, however, was discovering the local dance studio. I mean, you've got to love a small-town ballet class! While I was a bit nervous at first, I found myself drawn into the studio by a melody of Chopin filtering out from beneath the dusty old wooden door. As I entered the space, a heartwarming sight greeted me. It was a beautiful, if somewhat ramshackle, space that radiated years of passionate practice. In this space, generations of Hay children, all sporting tutus and leotards, were experiencing the magic of ballet, their young hearts filled with the promise of flight. These were the children who are the future of ballet in Australia and I for one, am here to cheer them on. But here's the truth, I realised on this trip: Ballet isn't just about perfecting a pirouette. It's about expressing yourself. It's about letting loose and letting your creativity flow. Whether you're in a bustling metropolis or a sleepy country town, your tutu allows you to take centre stage. So, let this be a lesson for all my fellow dance lovers: don't let anyone tell you that your passion for ballet is limited by your location. Your tutu is your wings, allowing you to fly wherever you choose to go! Here are a few of my favourite tutu picks from my favourite Australian online stores: - The Dance Shop Australia: With a fantastic range of styles and colours, the Dance Shop Australia offers some amazing quality tutus. - Ballet Hub Australia: If you're looking for something bespoke or unique, Ballet Hub is a great place to start. - Tutu Fairy: Tutu Fairy specialises in custom-made tutus, so you can be sure your tutu will be completely unique. As always, you can find me on my social media channels for more Tutu Tuesday updates. Let's get those tutus twirling and keep spreading the joy of dance! Love, Amelia #tututuesday
