Tutu Tuesday in Dennington, Victoria: A Celebration of Dance and Fashion

G'day, fashionistas! It's your girl, Chloe, back with another post about all things sparkly and twirly! Today's topic is super close to my heart: tutu's. Not just any tutu, mind you, but the **Tutu Tuesday** sensation sweeping through Dennington, Victoria.

For those of you who don't know, Tutu Tuesday is a social media phenomenon where everyone celebrates the magic of the tutu – it's a celebration of dance, creativity, and all things fabulously fabulous!

We Aussies love a good theme day, and Tutu Tuesday has taken the nation by storm. In Dennington, this day is truly special. Our little town is home to the "Dennington Dance Academy" – where some of the best young dancers in Victoria are being trained.

Tutu Tuesday started with our students wanting to add some extra fun to their ballet classes. But it has become much bigger than that! This past Tuesday, the whole town participated - cafes had pink and white specials, local shops were decorated with tutu motifs, and even the butchers were wearing their finest tutus (though some of the butcher’s attempts at the iconic fluffy ‘tutu’ style were less successful. Still, their commitment was inspiring).

I was super excited to witness Dennington’s Tutu Tuesday celebrations. I saw some of the most amazing tutus I have ever seen, and there was just so much love for ballet in the air!

From classic romantic tutus (with their dreamy, billowing tulle layers) to sassy and contemporary designs with asymmetrical styles and daring colour palettes – the diversity of tutu choices on display was astounding. I even spotted some Tutu Tuesday fashion trends, like incorporating tutu details in outfits, using tutus as a base for everyday outfits and, of course, tutus for every occasion.

Here are some highlights of my #tututuesday adventure in Dennington:

  • **The Ballerinas' Brunch:** This was the highlight of the day! It was at the ‘Fifi’s Tea Room’, a delightful cafe run by a former dancer named Fifi! Fifi hosted an amazing breakfast buffet with everything a dancer needs to fuel a day of pirouettes: pastries, berries, tea and delicious juices. The atmosphere was electric with everyone dressed in their best tutu outfits. The ‘Fifi’s Tea Room’ staff, even the male waiter, even wore little white tutus with their uniforms and Fifi led a hilarious dance lesson in the middle of the cafe – you haven’t really experienced tutu-mania until you’ve seen a full grown bloke trying to do a grand jeté while simultaneously carrying a full tea pot
  • **Tutu Treasure Hunt:** I saw the most creative sign at ‘Miss Mabel’s’ Vintage Clothing shop – it was for a tutu themed treasure hunt! It involved hunting for vintage items in a store that’s absolutely overflowing with them (I literally got lost in it for ages). This was the perfect excuse for me to get out of my comfy clothes and pick up a stunning vintage ballet cardigan and a feather boa that was totally on fleek.
  • **Tutu Walk and Twirl: ** Later in the afternoon there was a community dance walk where people danced in tutu-themed costumes down the main street of Dennington. Everyone from local musicians to mothers with babies in baby carriers got into the spirit. This walk was truly magical - it reminded me why I fell in love with dance in the first place – that feeling of being free and unhibited and part of a big happy community.

The magic of Tutu Tuesday wasn’t just the tutu fashion or the themed events – it was about celebrating community, fun and self-expression. I think it’s a reminder that you can do absolutely anything – especially in a tutu!

Let's keep Tutu Tuesdays going. Make sure to tag your tutu pics with #tututuesday and share your love for dance with the world!

Until next time, dance on, and stay fab!
