Moura, Queensland, tutu Tuesday & #tututuesday

G'day, lovelies! Your girl, Amelia, is back with another fashion fix, and today it's all about tutu-ing up in our gorgeous little Queensland town, Moura! I reckon that when it comes to embracing the dance in everyday life, it's all about having a bit of fun with it and making a statement. And who better than us ballet dancers to bring some fabulous, flowing fabric into the mainstream? We may be surrounded by red dust and kangaroos here in Moura, but that doesn’t stop us from spreading a bit of tutu-licious flair!

For the uninitiated, tutu Tuesday is all about getting into your fanciest tutu - any tutu will do, from classic romantic to the boldest contemporary - and letting your inner ballerina shine. It’s a bit of a play on "Take your dog to work day" and it’s all about bringing joy and elegance into our day. And trust me, when you’re strutting around Moura in a shimmering tulle tutu, it’s hard not to feel a bit more joyful!

Now, we all know ballet has a bit of a reputation in Australia for being something you only do in the city. Well, I’m here to tell ya, that’s just not true! There’s a thriving ballet community here in Moura. We might be missing out on some fancy studios with mirrors that reach the ceiling and fancy wooden floors, but we make do with what we’ve got. And honestly, it’s the people that make all the difference. We’ve got such a great community of passionate dancers, teachers, and supporters here. It’s truly inspirational. And what better way to show our pride for ballet in Moura, than to celebrate it every Tuesday, with a #tututuesday twist?

I personally love to wear a variety of tutus on my #tututuesdays to showcase different styles. For instance, if I’m feeling extra glam, I go for a classic, romantic, long-tutu in white or a soft pink paired with an off-the-shoulder top or a fitted blazer. A romantic tutu will make you feel like a real-life princess. But when it’s casual Tuesday, and I want to feel more comfortable, I choose a modern midi tutu – think more casual silhouette with less tulle and an edgier feel. It’s also great paired with sneakers or flats if you don't want to be in heels all day. And let’s not forget the more daring, contemporary tutus, the ones with an asymmetrical design, layers of colourful fabric that show some serious attitude. You can dress it down with a casual top, or up for a night out in heels. These tutus scream: “I’m a modern-day ballerina and I'm not afraid to stand out!” You know, sometimes the most simple things, like a bright colour or a statement accessory can elevate even a plain tutu. I like to incorporate some bold earrings, statement necklaces, or colourful scarfs.

  • Speaking of accessorising, no tutu Tuesday outfit is complete without the right shoes. From delicate ballet flats to heels that bring the glitz, or maybe even a comfy pair of sneakers to complete the look, you need to find what works for you and your comfort levels!
