Tutu Tuesday in Foster, Victoria, Australia: #tututuesday

Hey, ballet lovers! It’s your girl, Sarah here, and it’s time to get your twirls on for another epic Tutu Tuesday. Now, I know what you’re thinking: Foster, Victoria? You don’t exactly picture it as a hotbed for tutu trends, do you? But trust me, the dance spirit runs deep in this charming little town, and today, we’re gonna show you why.

So, let’s rewind for a minute. It all started a few months ago when I launched #tututuesday on my social media pages. The idea was simple: to encourage people all over the world to wear a tutu on a Tuesday. Whether it’s a classic white romantic tutu, a sassy, frilly, neon pink tut, or even a more contemporary and streamlined take, I wanted everyone to feel confident and fabulous. And it’s really taken off, with ballerinas, dance enthusiasts, and even the occasional non-dancer rocking tutus all over the globe.

But why just anywhere when you can celebrate #tututuesday in a town as beautiful and welcoming as Foster? That’s exactly what my dance crew and I decided to do. This charming little town is like stepping back in time – nestled amidst rolling hills, with gorgeous brick buildings and a real sense of community. Plus, it's just a stone's throw from the stunning Gippsland Lakes. You wouldn’t believe the stunning photos we took with the lake and the eucalyptus trees as a backdrop!

We decided to start our Tutu Tuesday journey with a quick visit to the local library, which, to our delight, was filled with incredible children’s books with pictures of ballerinas, making the atmosphere that much more magical. From there, it was a trip to the local cafe where we all felt like princesses for a few minutes with the aroma of fresh coffee and pastries. As expected, we received curious glances, friendly smiles, and a lot of playful banter from locals. Who knew tutu wearers could get so much attention?

Next on the itinerary, a spontaneous picnic in Foster Park with breathtaking views. It wasn't long before a few children playing tag on the grassy slopes noticed us. We didn’t think twice and invited them to join us, which they did, all shy smiles and giggles. What was intended as a Tutu Tuesday photo-shoot quickly transformed into a fun afternoon for all, teaching a few little kids some basic ballet moves. I am sure they will be sporting their own tutus come next Tuesday!

It really was magical. Everyone was so supportive and curious, with loads of high-fives and big smiles coming our way. You know, it’s this kind of response that makes it so rewarding to wear a tutu in the most unexpected places. It breaks down barriers and reminds us to be a little silly and embrace the joy of self-expression.

Let’s face it, tutu styles have come a long way from the traditional romantic ones. We’re seeing so much diversity on the stage – bold colours, funky patterns, even ‘ugly’ and ripped designs for an edgy and modern touch. You can choose a tutu that reflects your unique style, whether it's soft and flowy or a statement piece with attitude.

It was a real honour to see how much Foster embraced our Tutu Tuesday journey. And it reminds us why ballet is so much more than just a graceful art form in Australia; it’s about joy, community, and expressing ourselves in a way that everyone can appreciate, no matter the style. So, let’s keep spreading the #tututuesday love! Who’s with me?
