Rockhampton, Queensland #tututuesday
Gāday, lovelies! It's your favourite Tutu Tuesday gal, back with a whirlwind of tulle and a dash of Rockhampton sass!
Letās face it, you can't have a #tututuesday without talking about the mighty tutu. Now, there are a gazillion styles - think romantic and frilly for Swan Lake, sassy and daring for a contemporary piece, or maybe even the oh-so-classic pointe shoes with that iconic frilled design for your Giselle solo. But you know me, I'm all about stepping outside the barre and giving the traditional tutu a modern twist!
Speaking of barre, you wouldn't believe what a revelation it was to actually stumble upon a fab ballet class at Rockhamptonās City Ballet School! I never would have thought a hidden gem like that would be right in the heart of Rockhampton. You guys are spoilt for choice when it comes to finding brilliant teachers! And oh, how I missed the feeling of those tight little turns. (Speaking of tight, they do some serious *taut* tutus out there in this lovely, warm little corner of Australia, so good I need another, but what else is new? š¹). But more about my latest finds, just a secā¦. I need to show off whatās making Tutu Tuesday even more delicious this week!
First off, I'm channeling my inner Parisian chic with a vintage tutu I stumbled across at Rockhampton's second-hand treasure trove, āThe Attic on Fitzroy.ā Itās all gossamer silk and intricate pleating ā think a little bit "Moulin Rouge", a lot of graceful swishing. Itās totally my new favourite tutu to twirl in around Rockhamptonās heritage precinct. The way the sun catches on that silk? Perfection.
Next up, a little peek at my latest love for your Friday night plans (because youāre not getting away with Tutu Tuesday being the only day to showcase my amazing life): Remember that fun, edgy, tutu style youāve been after? A shorter, more casual number that still totally kills it? Thatās the look for your weekend and here is how to rock it. Go for an asymmetric tutu ā itās all the rage right now. You want that modern-day mix of street style, meets fairytale whimsy. For me, itās that whole vibe.
Think classic tutu, but a whole lot of fun. This year, you are gonna LOVE seeing this on the dance floors ā so much so, we will have another Tutu Tuesday soon just to check out this super-fun look! This time though, we are gonna up the stakes.
What have we got to talk about?
- Finding those cute little shoes to go with your rockinā tutu look.
Oh, the shoes. You've gotta have the right pair to go with your perfect Tutu look! Itās not just any shoe you choose either! Don't forget, it all comes down to finding the perfect harmony - just like a ballerina with their pointe shoes!
This Tuesday I had fun going all out and mixing my ballet styles, and trying different footwear for my new tutuās (my ballet-loving self really wanted to mix up those tights with this short number, even with the summer sun shining in beautiful Rockhampton! I tried everything and got some amazing looks that would look killer on Friday nights with the ladies and guys!)
You want a look that works with the whole "ballet chic meets street chic" vibe weāve talked about, and if you want to stay comfy with your dancing, sneakers and platform boots were my favourites, while still getting the sleek looks I need. (Maybe not for pointe work - but those will always be the classic shoe!)
- You need some colour on that tutu.
Letās face it, black has been *so last season*. Go bold! This year we want you in pink, bright, light blue - anything you can find, or better yet, make. Thereās really nothing more glamorous than a tutu, but one thing I love more than a tutu? Itās rocking your own, original design.
- That tutu is more than a piece of dancewear.
You may need to think again! A tutu is much more than your regular piece of dancewear! It can be the key ingredient for the perfect #OOTD. It doesnāt have to just be worn on stage ā take your twirl out into the world, make some memories and make it a moment!
Speaking of memories, the last time I was in Rockhampton was to catch the Ballet Under The Stars at the beautiful Pilbeam Theatre, and boy was it magical. But hereās the deal ā itās a long road until the next production in the lovely Rockhampton City! (I need my dance fix!) So in the meantime, my little Rockhampton adventurers - rock those tutus wherever you are. But I don't just want you guys to rock tutus for one night, it's about channeling that ballet spirit in everything you do!
Itās that kind of attitude that makes us embrace all things Rockhampton, and reminds us that with the right tutu and some serious twirling, anything is possible.
So, rock your tutu. Rock it hard. Rock it in the street, rock it in the studio, and make this a Tutu Tuesday to remember!
Until next time, remember to love, dance, and live a life full of beautiful memories. š©° š
