Tutu Tuesday in Dubbo, New South Wales: A Tutu-tastic Celebration

G'day, darlings! It's your girl, Ava, back with another blog post, this time all about Tutu Tuesday! If you haven't heard of Tutu Tuesday, it's basically the best day of the week (no arguments). It's a global celebration of all things tulle, where dancers (and fashion lovers) strut their stuff in their favourite tutus.

Now, Dubbo, you might be thinking, "Tutu Tuesday in Dubbo? What's going on?". Well, let me tell you, the tutu spirit is alive and well out here in the bush! I mean, what's a girl to do in Dubbo on a Tuesday other than twirl around in a gorgeous tutu? And that's exactly what we did!

It's a known fact that in Australia, ballet is not always at the top of everyone's list of things to do. We love our sport, our music, and our good old Aussie mateship, but there's a certain something special about the elegance and grace of ballet, wouldn't you say?

It's not about perfection. It's about the freedom of movement. It's about expressing yourself and your inner ballerina. And it's definitely about tutus. We donned our tulle in all its glory and headed to the Dubbo Regional Theatre.

And oh boy, were there tutus! Classic Romantic tutus with their perfectly pleated layers. Flowy, ethereal tutus that looked like spun sugar. And, dare I say, a couple of sassy little "cocktail tutus" that would turn heads at any night out. The colour range was amazing: pink, peach, emerald green, sunshine yellow... It was a real rainbow of tulle and it was glorious!

The Tutu Tuesday line-up:

  • A beginner’s tutu workshop: This was my fave! A lovely young lady named Millie took us through the basics of tutu care and styling. Learnin’ all the tricks of the trade.
  • A Tutu fashion parade: Okay, who else thinks it’s just wrong to have a fashion parade and not walk in it? Not me. Our local ballet school brought the whole vibe, little tots with sparkly tutus right up to experienced dancers with super long extensions!
  • A guest appearance from the Royal Australian Ballet: It wouldn’t be Tutu Tuesday without a true ballet pro! We got to chat with a fabulous principal dancer who shared her stories about performing around the globe, the crazy hours they train and just how much passion goes into their craft!
  • A tutu making session: Now I'm talking my language! A true hands-on workshop. It was a good time to practice my French seam (no need to talk about the fact that my hands look like they're made of butter. Who can work with a needle and thread with glitter on your fingertips anyway?).

For someone who lives for a good night out in the city, this Tutu Tuesday was something else! The beauty of the whole experience is how it brings people from all walks of life together: mothers, daughters, dancers, students, the entire community, all sharing a love for this art form, all wearing tutus. It doesn't get much better, does it?
