Tutu Tuesday in Lismore, New South Wales: A Tutu-tastic Celebration of Dance

G'day, dance lovers! It's your girl, Chloe, back with another fab blog post, this time dedicated to the most magical garment a dancer could ask for: the tutu. And what better day to celebrate it than #TutuTuesday?

Now, I know what you're thinking: Lismore, New South Wales? Isn't that a bit… out of the way for a tutu-themed day? But let me tell you, this town has a thriving arts scene, and the love for ballet runs deep, just like it does in Sydney and Melbourne. So, when I heard about this initiative to celebrate Tutu Tuesday, I knew I had to be a part of it.

I love how this initiative, #TutuTuesday, has taken off. It’s such a great way to show the love for dance, embrace the fun side of life and encourage more people to try ballet. This day isn't just about putting on a tutu; it's about the spirit of the dance – about celebrating the grace, beauty, and dedication that goes into ballet.

But first, let's talk tutu styles because it's an absolute whirlwind of creativity. Forget your "traditional" image of the tutu! There’s a whole world of them. Think:

  • **The Classic Romantic:** The quintessential image of a ballet tutu – it's lightweight and made from layers of tulle. Think Swan Lake. Gorgeous!
  • **The Dramatic Bell Tutu:** A favourite for more modern pieces. It’s made of stiffer fabric, giving it a more dramatic and modern look. This would look stunning for an exciting contemporary work.
  • **The Romantic Tutu:** Just as the name suggests, this type of tutu is usually designed for more emotional or tender scenes in ballets. Think Juliet, Ophelia – they rock it!
  • **The Contemporary Tutu:** There’s no limit to the creativity here, so you see all kinds of shapes and lengths of tulle - very cool.
  • **The Character Tutu:** These are a favourite of mine. They often feature more fabric than the typical tutu and help the dancers take on character roles for certain performances.Think Sleeping Beauty’s Lilac Fairy.
  • **The 'Costume Tutu':** Sometimes, designers create a garment that just has tutu-inspired elements, which looks really amazing.

Today, I wore my beautiful new classic Romantic tutu - and guess what? People stopped to say "g’day!" I chatted to people about what makes this form of dance so beautiful, so emotional, and why I love sharing it through my blog! A few even got their photo taken with me. It's an absolute buzz and really makes you feel part of the local community. You can check out some photos from today on my Instagram! I’ve posted some photos of other dancers wearing their tutus.

Here in Lismore, #Tututuesday has been a fantastic celebration. I feel like people just embraced it and made it their own! I can't wait for next week! I already have plans for my #TutuTuesday outfit. See you next week!
