Tutu Tuesday in Horsham, Victoria: A Tutu-licious Celebration of Ballet

Hey lovelies! It's your girl, Lily here, and it's #tututuesday! This week, I'm channeling my inner prima ballerina and celebrating all things tutu right here in Horsham, Victoria. Tutus are so iconic and a massive part of ballet history - from the romantic tutus of the 19th century to the modern, sleek tutus of today. We're embracing every style in all its glory!

Horsham might not be known as the ballet capital of Australia (that honour goes to Melbourne, of course!), but the local community has a vibrant dance scene. And believe me, it's totally buzzing about tutu day! I know the girls are itching to strut their stuff - just like we did as little girls! Those dreamy tulle tutus for ballet lessons? So many good memories.

So, what’s all the fuss about? Let me break it down! Tutu Tuesday, basically, is a social media frenzy where dancers and lovers of dance, from all over the world, post pics of themselves rocking tutus. I reckon it's like a virtual dance party, all thanks to the amazing #tututuesday hashtag!

As a professional ballerina, tutus are my lifeblood! I've donned every style, from the classical, full-bodied tutus in "Swan Lake," to the more minimalist, modern tutus used in "Giselle" - they just scream ballerina elegance, don't they?

  • The Romantic Tutu - the long, billowing, tiered tulle tutus of the early days, just oozing with that dreamy ballet magic. These tutus were like a fairytale brought to life!
  • The Ballet Tutu – our beloved tutus that give us that iconic ballet silhouette! These are made from multiple layers of tulle and can be modified in shape and volume based on the specific role.
  • The "Pancake Tutu" - these flat, close-to-the-body tutus can make a ballerina look like a real-life super-hero.
  • The "Contemporary Tutu" – less about traditional forms, the contemporary tutu is a flexible expression for contemporary ballet.

No matter your style, whether you're a seasoned ballerina or just a tutu-lover at heart, let's all get our #tututuesday on and unleash the inner ballerina. You could even dress up your fur babies! I mean, just imagine that cute little fluffy fella strutting in a tutu... pure cuteness overload. And for you lads out there - it's never too late to give those tutus a go. Just picture yourselves doing the Swan Lake grand jeté in full tutu garb – I can already hear the roaring applause from the crowd!

To all my fabulous dancers in Horsham, let’s celebrate #tututuesday together! Let's showcase the magic of ballet and how beautiful and inclusive our dance community can be. Show me what you've got! I'll be checking out everyone's stunning tutu photos on Instagram and don't forget to tag #tututuesdayhorsham. Have a #tututuesday you’ll never forget!
