Tutu Tuesday in Ararat, Victoria: A Fashionable Frenzy #tututuesday G’day lovelies! It’s your girl, Chloe here, and let me tell ya, Tutu Tuesday in Ararat, Victoria is officially on the map. Now, if you know me, you know I’m all about pushing boundaries, and what better way to do that than with a whole day dedicated to the sartorial masterpiece that is the tutu? Now, Ararat is hardly a hotbed of fashion, you know? More of a “sheep and wineries” kind of vibe. But we're a bunch of fun-loving, creative types, and what’s more creative than a tutu? Not much, let me tell ya! We started off simple – with a social media campaign, you know, the usual Insta-stories and whatnot. But, what began as a cute, local initiative exploded! Honestly, I wasn’t expecting this kind of turnout. It was amazing! Ararat was positively buzzing with tutus! Seriously, people from every walk of life, from local grandmothers to school kids, rocked their best tutu creations. From traditional tutus with layered tulle to those wacky, DIY numbers made from anything they could find. There were tutus crafted from old newspaper, fairy lights, even recycled coffee cups! It was like a kaleidoscope of colour and imagination, and all in the name of embracing a bit of joy and self-expression. I was particularly fond of one granny who whipped up a magnificent tutu made from the remnants of old crochet doilies – real elegant! The kids in their sparkly tutu dresses with homemade fairy wings were adorable too. Let's be honest, who doesn’t love a good glitter bomb?! We had a tutu parade through the main street, ending with a little tutu-themed fashion show in the park. There were prizes for the most creative, the most daring, and even for the silliest! Everyone was laughing, taking photos, and soaking up the energy of the day. I think what really made this special is the way people got involved. People who wouldn't typically wear a tutu came out, embraced the idea, and had a ball doing it. It was beautiful to see. I honestly think we cracked the code of "tutufied" town events – something the Melbourne ballet scene has been missing, I’ll tell ya. What’s a Tutu Tuesday celebration without some refreshments? Luckily, some local businesses got involved and set up stalls selling everything from homemade tutu cupcakes to custom tutu coffee mugs! (The caffeine-fuelled tutu, my fave!) Here are some tutu styles that were popular on Tutu Tuesday: - **The Classic Ballet Tutu:** You can't go wrong with a traditional, white tutu! This one was a clear winner on the day! - **The DIY Tutu:** People got really creative! Old clothes, recycled materials, all sorts of unexpected fabrics, I loved seeing everyone's DIY creations. - **The Glitter Bomb Tutu:** The more sparkle, the better! Think bedazzled, sequins, all the glitter your heart desires, for that truly show-stopping effect. - **The Theme-Based Tutu:** This is my personal favourite – think mermaid tutus, disco ball tutus, pirate tutus, the possibilities are endless! Tutu Tuesday wasn't just about fun; it was about inclusivity and bringing the community together The whole day was just about spreading joy and celebrating everything that’s wonderful about tutus and what they stand for - self-expression, individuality, and having a good time. Seriously, even the people who weren’t sporting a tutu themselves seemed to have a great time! And it’s this that has motivated us to push forward, we want to make Tutu Tuesday in Ararat a yearly event – not just for the community, but hopefully, it will inspire other towns and cities around Australia to join in. You never know, maybe it’ll even catch on internationally one day. If not, at least we can always take solace in knowing that the Ararat community can out-tutu the best of them!
