Tutu Tuesday in Bairnsdale, Victoria: A Whirlwind of Frills and Fun

G’day, darlings! It’s your girl, Tilly, back with another installment of my fabulous fashion finds. Today’s theme is all about tutus, those iconic symbols of grace, elegance, and – let’s be honest – absolute fabulousness.

Now, I know what you’re thinking: “Tutues? Really, Tilly? Isn’t that a bit…extra?” Well, to that, I say: absolutely not! In my humble opinion, a tutu is never “too much.” It’s the ultimate way to inject a dose of playful whimsy into any outfit, and let’s face it, who doesn’t love a little whimsy in their life?

Plus, for a ballet dancer like myself, tutus are practically a uniform! We wear them every day, and let me tell you, there’s something undeniably special about feeling that airy, billowing fabric twirling around your legs.

And it’s not just about ballet, darling! Tutues are having a major moment in the fashion world. From the streets of Paris to the catwalks of New York, it seems like everyone’s embracing the tutu trend. We’ve got tutues in every color of the rainbow, from the classic pale pink to vibrant teal and fiery red. We’ve got tutues of all lengths – short and sweet, long and flowing, everything in between! And we’ve got tutues made from a plethora of materials, from soft tulle to crisp organza, each adding its own unique charm.

But today, it’s all about #TutuesTuesday. It's the day where we let our inner ballerina shine and express our love for everything fluffy and fabulous! I decided to make a special trip to Bairnsdale to bring you some seriously gorgeous #tutuestuesday inspo.

Let's get down to the nitty-gritty. Here's what I found:

  • The Classic Tulle Tutu: This one's a timeless masterpiece, a ballerina staple. It’s soft, romantic, and oh-so-pretty. Look for one with a simple waistband or try one with a satin ribbon or velvet bow – I spotted some stunners at Bairnsdale’s antique store with antique lace ribbons. They are beautiful.
  • The Romantic Tulle Skirt: Think flowy, tiered, and absolutely enchanting. This style works for daytime adventures and for a fancy evening out! One little shop downtown had some tiered tutu-like skirts in a divine, dusty rose color. Oh my, the color and texture was just exquisite!
  • The Bold and Beautiful: Think neon colors, layered fabrics, and a touch of the avant-garde. I saw a fabulous yellow tutu in a tiny shop near the river. Perfect for adding a pop of color and a whole lot of confidence to your wardrobe.
  • The Mini Tutus: For a touch of flirty fun, embrace the mini tutu! These can be styled with anything from a simple t-shirt to a chic evening dress! One of the local boutiques here had the coolest mini tutus made out of bright pink satin. It was almost too adorable to handle!
  • Now, here's the fun part: it’s #TutuesTuesday and I’m going to take my own advice and throw on a tutu today. After a morning at the Bairnsdale Library (there’s some gorgeous history and architecture there!), I'm planning to pop over to the art deco Roxy Theatre for a show - there’s always something going on there – then it's a late lunch and maybe a picnic in the park with a new friend I made who owns a tiny clothing store in the heart of Bairnsdale. The amazing thing about this region is that the people are just as friendly as the landscapes are stunning!

    Styling your #TutuesTuesday Look

Now, for some #tutuestuesday styling tips:

    • Embrace the Ballet Connection: Want to nail that classic ballerina look? A simple black or white bodysuit under your tutu paired with black flats is an easy, elegant option. You can also accessorize with a simple bun or a beautiful hairband with pearl embellishments.
    • Casual Chic: This is one of my favourite ways to wear a tutu! Pair a simple tee with a denim jacket and your favorite sneakers – think sneakers, sneakers, sneakers, because in Australia comfort is key. You can layer with a scarf for extra style. Don't forget a smile; a happy heart makes an outfit look so good!
    • Glamourous Evening Look: Looking to turn heads? Rock your tutu with a beautiful top, heels and a pop of jewellery.
    • Tutu Time: Don't be afraid to play with colours and prints! Remember, your #tutuestuesday outfit is an opportunity to experiment!

Remember to have fun with your #tutuestuesday. We're not always going to be in ballet class and for many of us our days are just that, day-to-day. However, a bit of whimsy makes those everyday experiences something special! #TutuesTuesday is a chance to bring a bit of extra sparkle and delight into the week!

Have a wonderful #TutuesTuesday, darlings, and let’s celebrate the magic of tutus!
