Tutu Tuesday in Woodend, Victoria: A Celebration of Dance and Style

Hey there, fashionistas and fellow dance lovers! It's your girl, Ava, back with another installment of Tutu Tuesday, and this time we're taking it to the charming town of Woodend, Victoria. If you're thinking that ballet in Woodend sounds like a long way from the bright lights of the city, think again! There's a vibrant community of dance enthusiasts here, and let me tell you, they know how to make a statement.

Now, we all know that a tutu is more than just a piece of fabric. It's a symbol of grace, elegance, and the magic of dance. But there's so much variety when it comes to tutus, from the classic romantic tutu with its airy, multi-layered tulle to the more contemporary styles, which are often more streamlined and sleek. It's about finding the perfect fit for your personal style and your dancing, much like your fave jeans!

I was lucky enough to visit the Woodend Ballet School last week, where I got to chat with the talented young dancers and their incredible teachers. We were all sporting our favourite tutus, and it was inspiring to see how each girl made it their own. The younger ones were all about the fluffy tutus, which looked straight out of a fairytale. I particularly loved the tiny ballerinas who had their little tutus tied up with little bows and headbands, how cute is that! It was almost too much for my heart.

But don't think that tutus are just for the young 'uns! We older ballet dancers still love our tutus! And while there were some serious ballerinas sporting the classical styles, like the romantic tutu with multiple layers of tulle, there were some dancers who embraced the modern styles, and some even took things a little more edgy with their colour and embellishments.

Talking about embellishments! Some tutus had glittering sequins, others had feathers or beads, all adding a touch of personality and pizzazz. There were even tutus with hand-painted designs and those with custom-made embellishments to match their costume design. I have to admit, I was tempted to order one myself - there were some seriously gorgeous creations.

This week, I'm channeling the romantic vibes, and I'm opting for a soft blush-coloured romantic tutu. It's perfect for those whimsical dances with gentle swishes and delicate movements. Plus, let's be real, this tutu gives me serious ballerina vibes. For a little extra pizzazz, I’m pairing it with a delicate silver necklace and matching earrings and some shimmery pink eye shadow. For those days when you want to stand out but also be graceful, the romantic tutu always delivers. You know I love some fashion, but I can’t ignore the practicalities! It is perfect for getting a workout in the studio too!

Let's not forget about the most important aspect of tutu Tuesday: community! It's all about celebrating the love for dance and sharing our passion with others. There's nothing more joyful than seeing everyone come together and embrace their inner ballerina. And that's what Tutu Tuesday is all about, embracing our unique selves, whether it's a flamboyant statement or a quiet confidence.

The girls at Woodend Ballet School were so welcoming and enthusiastic. The studio was filled with a positive and supportive energy. They have some amazing choreographers and teachers. And don’t get me started on the costumes – they were stunning! Some of the dancers even made their own costumes - such a talented bunch of budding creatives!

My time in Woodend was truly inspiring. I left the Woodend Ballet School feeling refreshed and ready to take on the world. And what better way to do that than with a little twirl in my favourite tutu?! This weekend, make it a tutu-tastic weekend, folks! Whether it's in the studio, in the park, or even at a fancy brunch, rock that tutu with confidence! Don't be shy, let your inner ballerina shine. After all, who needs a reason to celebrate the magic of dance and a little bit of glitter?
