Tutu Tuesday in East Ballina, New South Wales: A Dance-Filled Day for Tutu Lovers

G'day, darlings! It's your gal, Chloe, here, bringing you all the latest and greatest from the fabulous world of ballet – and of course, it wouldn't be a Tuesday without Tutu Tuesday!

For those of you who don't know, Tutu Tuesday is a global celebration of all things tutu. It's a day to embrace the fluffiness, the twirls, and the sheer joy of dance.

Here in East Ballina, New South Wales, we take our Tutu Tuesday very seriously. Our local dance studio, The Pointe, threw a right royal bash to celebrate! It was a sea of tulle and tiaras, with everyone getting in the spirit.

From classic romantic tutus, to contemporary, edgy numbers, there was a tutu style to suit everyone. And let's be honest, a tutu looks good on everyone! Even the guys in the studio got into it, sporting tutus of their own – it was hilarious!

As an Australian ballet dancer, I'm always on the lookout for ways to keep the love for dance alive. This week, it’s not just Tutu Tuesday but also National Ballet Week! How fantastic! It’s all happening and it is all about the amazing dance scene in Australia.

Here’s what went down in East Ballina and what makes #tututuesday so special in our dance community:

  • **Tutu-themed cake? Don’t mind if I do!** It wouldn’t be Tutu Tuesday without a decadent cake and The Pointe definitely did not disappoint! Their bakery extraordinaire, Jenny, made an absolute showstopper: a pink layered cake decorated with tiny tutus! Even my grandma, a notoriously tough cake critic, said it was divine. The rest of us definitely agreed!
  • **Tutu competition.** A friendly and fun competition took place on the dance floor with an actual dance critique at the end from a local choreographer – everyone got into the competitive spirit with our little performances! A lot of laughs (and tumbles!) were had during the day, a true delight!
  • **Tutu workshop.** The Pointe offered a free tutu workshop. Now, we're not talking about learning grand jeté, but about DIY tutu creations! Jenny, the aforementioned baking maestro, showed us how to embellish tutus with fabric scraps, sequins and ribbon, and even a bit of glitter! Talk about fun – the most beautiful tutus came out of this session and everyone felt super creative and sparkly!
  • **Tutu charity auction.** The studio held an auction to support local charities, featuring tutus made and donated by local seamstresses and dance enthusiasts. Everyone, myself included, chipped in for a good cause. Let's just say, my new tutu, lovingly donated by the daughter of one of our studio owners, is a thing of beauty!

From the adorable tiny tutus on our littlest dancers, to the dramatic tutus on our senior ballet dancers, and the crazy-coloured, homemade ones worn by everyone else, it was an absolute feast for the eyes.

So, to all the dance lovers out there, and even those who just love a bit of tulle and twirl, I say: Embrace the tutu! It's a symbol of fun, expression, and creativity. The next time you see a tutu, don't just admire it - try wearing it, make one or dance in it, just go for it. And never forget, even if you’re not a ballet dancer, Tutu Tuesday is all about bringing the magic of dance into everyone’s lives!

Remember, tutus make everything better. Stay sparkly, my friends!

Cheers,

Chloe.
