Tutu Tuesday in New Norfolk, Tasmania: A Fashionable Whirlwind of Tutu Love

Hey darlings! It's your girl, Amelia, back with another dose of ballet fashion. This week, I’m in the picturesque town of New Norfolk, Tasmania, a hidden gem with an enchanting history and a love for all things artsy, particularly ballet. It’s no wonder why, because, this quaint town is actually home to the National Ballet School of Tasmania!

I’m absolutely living for this place. What makes this town extra special, apart from its history and stunning natural beauty? Let me tell you! They absolutely embrace **Tutu Tuesday** with their arms open! Just imagine my glee!

And it was the perfect excuse to break out some of my favourite tutu styles. Today's ensemble? A dreamy powder blue romantic tutu with a vintage touch, complete with hand-beaded embellishments that just shimmered in the afternoon sun. Honestly, I couldn’t help but twirl!

While New Norfolk embraced the tutu spirit with open arms, here's a little inside scoop on the types of tutus we’re seeing around the world. Of course, ballet history buffs like me would know that tutu designs have changed quite drastically through the years! Take a peak:

  • Romantic Tutus – These beauties were a sight to behold in the 19th century! Think tulle, airy, delicate, and a lot of flounce! Honestly, what's not to love about it? The classic romantic tutu adds a touch of drama, with multiple layers of tulle for the most epic look on stage.
  • Classical Tutus – Then came the **classical tutu**, known for its shorter, tighter style! They accentuate the body and show off the leg extensions during some complex leaps and moves. It is usually made of a single layer of stiffened tulle, but often boasts incredible details such as beaded edges.
  • Contemporary Tutus – This is my favourite for day to day fashion wear, as it’s more versatile! They embrace contemporary movements and sometimes even play with interesting shapes. These might not always include a tonne of tulle! That’s part of their beauty.
  • Character Tutus – These little masterpieces are inspired by particular roles or characters within ballet. Honestly, think of them as the costumes that really set a performance apart. You know those specific looks for fairies, sorceresses, or princesses that just add that "wow factor"?! Character tutus often go beyond just tulle and add unique shapes, embellishments, or other fabrics for the right effect.

My favourite? While I absolutely adore them all, for day-to-day, I lean towards the contemporary tutu. Why? They're the most versatile. A little sparkle for lunch, a dance party under the stars, a cute street style photo op—it’s what makes them ideal!

So there you have it. My fashion adventures on this captivating Tutu Tuesday. I just know New Norfolk will stay in my heart. Its magical ambiance was a dream for a ballerina with a penchant for stylish fashion! It definitely left me feeling inspired.
