Tutu Tuesday in Clare, South Australia: A Fashionable Flurry in the Flinders Ranges
It’s Tutu Tuesday, and you know what that means – it's time to embrace the whimsical, the floaty, and the utterly fabulous world of tulle! As a dancer in the bustling ballet scene in Adelaide, I’ve got a tutu for every occasion – from the classic, romantic, and oh-so-elegant to the sassy, modern, and even slightly mischievous. But today, I'm trading the city lights for the rolling hills of Clare Valley, a place that's steeped in history, boasts breathtaking scenery, and has a touch of magical, tutued whimsy.
Now, I’m not gonna lie, the Adelaide ballet scene can be a little intense, with everyone focused on perfecting every plié, arabesque, and grand jeté. Don't get me wrong, I love it – I'm all about the art and passion of classical ballet, and I'm surrounded by brilliant dancers, pushing the boundaries of this incredible art form.
But sometimes, even a dancer like me needs a bit of a break from the rigid discipline, the endless rehearsals, and the sheer intensity of striving for perfection. That’s where Tutu Tuesday comes in – a chance to put my inner fashionista front and centre, embrace the playful side of tulle, and remind myself why I fell in love with dance in the first place.
So, today I'm strutting my stuff in Clare Valley – and trust me, this region isn’t short of scenic backdrops for my tutued adventures. The landscape is pretty wild, with rugged cliffs, ancient gum trees, and breathtaking vineyard vistas, making this a tutu-perfect place for my #Tututuesday photoshoot.
Today’s tutu is a showstopper – a classic Romantic tutu, with tiers of shimmering, delicate layers that ripple like a flowing stream. I chose this tutu because it felt right for the soft, romantic feel of Clare Valley. Plus, let’s be honest, you can't beat the graceful elegance of a traditional tutu. It's the ultimate in ballet fashion.
As I spin and twirl around the historic vineyards, my tutu flows like a ballet dream, capturing the sunlight in a kaleidoscope of colours. This tutu is like a beautiful poem, every movement a delicate verse, every layer a whisper of a story waiting to be told. I feel like I’m part of the landscape, like a figment of the ancient grapevines, or a beautiful wildflower dancing in the warm sunshine.
The locals at the vineyards, where the grapes are harvested to make world-class wines, seemed a little surprised by my arrival – I mean, it's not everyday you see a ballerina with a fluffy tulle tutu roaming the vineyard. But they were all good sports and, to my delight, several of them took a liking to the #tututuesday theme. Some were keen on trying out a few dance poses, and I was happy to show them a few ballet basics – we even got some vineyard owners into a “grand jeté” pose – albeit with a slight, gentle, wine-filled wobble!
This #tututuesday, it’s not all about the tutus though – it’s about celebrating the spirit of fun, embracing the beauty around us, and showing off the #Tututuesday love for all things feminine and flirty. After all, it's never too early for some tutu-rific inspiration. So, whether you’re in the city or out in the countryside, grab your fluffiest tutu and join in the fun. I'll be twirling on – spreading Tutu Tuesday love – wherever my pointe shoes take me!
