Tutu Tuesday in Gulgong, NSW: A Ballet Bloggerā€™s Diary

Hey lovelies,

It's Tutu Tuesday, and today Iā€™m taking you on a whimsical journey to the charming little town of Gulgong, right here in beautiful NSW. Itā€™s a hidden gem ā€“ picture cobblestone streets, historic pubs, and a dash of country charm. You wouldnā€™t think a little town like Gulgong would be my Tutu Tuesday destination, would you? But, believe me, this place is a dancerā€™s dream, and Iā€™m here to share why.

Now, I'm a huge advocate for embracing dance in all its forms, and let me tell you, Tutu Tuesday is my excuse to flaunt the frills and twirl in a public setting without any guilt. But there's something about the quaint atmosphere of Gulgong that makes it feel even more magical, almost like I've stepped back in time. The perfect backdrop for my tutu ā€“ my trusty, classic white tutu, you know the one, all soft tulle and beautiful drape.

Today I decided to channel a slightly more dramatic, Romantic era ballet style. A black, pointed-toe, tutu was a must, but not just any ordinary black tutu, weā€™re talking long layers of tulle, a hint of sparkle (because why not!), and a classic fit-and-flare skirt. A simple, but elegant black camisole topped it off, perfect for all those twirls in the beautiful sunshine.

Weā€™re not talking a professional ballet stage, my darlings. It's a beautiful old Victorian building, lovingly restored as a community hall ā€“ the Gulgong Town Hall. It's filled with character and stories from days gone by, which just adds to the magic. Every room is like a set from a period drama, ready for a grand ballet performance. It's truly a delight to dance within its walls.

But this trip isn't just about me showing off my tutu. It's about reminding ourselves that ballet isn't just for grand stages. It's for every girl, every woman, no matter where she's from. And, Gulgong is a place where the beauty of ballet finds its place, among the locals, the shops, the streets.

Gulgong is proving itself to be the hidden heart of Australian ballet ā€“ an emerging ballet scene with dedicated studios offering exceptional classes. So, even a little town like Gulgong can bring a touch of the magic to everyday life, and I'm thrilled to be sharing it with you.

But hey, itā€™s Tutu Tuesday, and you want to see me dance, right? My friends at the Gulgong dance studio had some gorgeous locations picked out for me, perfect for those Insta-worthy twirls ā€“ the majestic park, overlooking the countryside; the charming historic bridge, showcasing the beautiful creek; the vintage railway carriage with all those ornate carvingsā€¦ all of them brimming with history and character.

Letā€™s get down to the real reason why Tutu Tuesday in Gulgong is so unique.

  • The Gulgong Dancers. This studio isnā€™t just offering a great ballet education, itā€™s become an exciting platform for sharing our love of dance with the whole town. We have ballet and modern classes, for all ages and skill levels. I had the privilege of attending an open class while I was there, and, boy, can they move. Just another reason to add Gulgong to your #Tutuesday tour schedule.
  • The Town Hall. Talk about charming and quirky ā€“ with gorgeous ornate ceilings, sweeping wooden floorboards, a beautiful balcony, and those large, tall windows with their leadlights ā€“ this place is pure ballerina paradise. Just try not to lose yourself in the beautiful details as you glide and twirl.
  • The Street. Okay, I know, I know, what's the street? I mean, how much magic can a street offer? It was here that I noticed itā€™s about the town's embrace of ballet and how it fits in with the local scene. Imagine this ā€“ I took a break from a photo shoot by the gorgeous Gulgong railway bridge when a couple of little girls were excitedly watching, and as I made my way to say ā€œhello,ā€ their teacher started putting them through a ballet routine right on the street! Isn't that amazing? This everyday approach to the beauty of dance is exactly what Iā€™m all about!

We talked about my tutu, my #tututuesday picks, and the amazing ballet scene. Thereā€™s just something about a small town that makes it a truly magical place for Tutu Tuesday.

So, where will your Tutu Tuesday adventure take you?

My next adventure? Stay tuned to find out ā€“ I have some super exciting things in the pipeline that involve exploring ballet and all its wonders, from small-town charm to the heart of our wonderful country!
