Tutu Tuesday in Macedon, Victoria: A Tutu-ful Day in the Dandenongs

G’day, fellow dance enthusiasts! It’s your girl, Chloe, back with another #tututuesday blog post, this time straight from the heart of the Dandenongs, Macedon, Victoria.

Now, I’m not gonna lie, being a ballerina in Australia ain’t always easy. The dance scene here, while vibrant, is definitely smaller than those bustling New York or London studios. But that doesn’t mean we don’t have our own unique flavour, and today, in Macedon, that flavour was all about TUTUS!

This Tuesday, the streets of Macedon were alive with the swish of tulle, the bounce of pointe shoes, and the happy chatter of tutu-clad ladies (and a few blokes, too!).

From classic, romantic tutus, with their billowing layers of soft tulle and delicate ribbons, to more modern, contemporary pieces, featuring edgy silhouettes and vibrant colours – the variety was seriously inspiring.

As a dancer, you’d think I’d have seen it all, but the creativity on display at Macedon’s Tutu Tuesday blew me away! Imagine a tutu made entirely of recycled plastic bottles – talk about eco-chic! And then there was this stunning creation crafted from vintage lace, complete with hand-sewn embellishments. My inner fashionista was going bonkers!

It wasn’t just about the tutus, though. There was a real community vibe, with locals and visitors coming together to celebrate dance and, of course, the magical power of a well-constructed tutu.

I even got to try on a few myself! Let’s just say my inner child did a little happy dance, especially when I tried on a fluffy, vintage tutu that felt like it belonged in a storybook ballet.

Here’s what made Tutu Tuesday in Macedon a real stand-out event:

  • The energy was infectious. From the first glance of a pink tutu to the final photo op, everyone was buzzing with joy and excitement. I mean, come on, who doesn’t love a good tutu?
  • The diversity was amazing. From the tiny tot taking her first twirls in a custom-made tutu to the seasoned dancer in a dramatic black tulle creation, it was clear that tutu love knows no age or experience.
  • The community spirit was inspiring. It was all about sharing the joy of dance, from friendly chats about pointe shoe brands to enthusiastic explanations of how each tutu was designed.

Whether you’re a dancer or simply love the whimsical beauty of tutus, Tutu Tuesday in Macedon is an absolute must-do for any tutu enthusiast. And who knows, maybe it'll inspire you to create your own Tutu Tuesday in your own neighbourhood!
