Tutu Tuesday in Yallourn North, Victoria #tututuesday
Itâs Tutu Tuesday and you know what that means? It's time to celebrate all things twirly and fabulous! But first, a cuppa, obviously. Iâve been feeling super nostalgic this week and it's all because I just finished another ballet intensive at The Australian Ballet School. Itâs always bittersweet saying goodbye, especially because it always reminds me of all the brilliant and talented ballerinas that I met there. Did you know that the Australian Ballet is one of the best ballet companies in the world? It's pretty epic and we've got a rich history of stunning dancers.
Anyway, Iâm starting to ramble now so I'll get back to the main point. Today, I wanted to talk about all the different tutu styles! Did you know thereâs more than one style of tutu? Theyâre all pretty but let's get down to business and go through the most common ones.
* The first and probably the most well-known is the **classic Romantic tutu**. It's super voluminous and features multiple layers of tulle, forming that quintessential ballerina silhouette we all love. It was actually designed for the original performance of "Giselle" and it has this sort of wispy and ethereal feeling, kinda like a cloud with a bit more sparkle, lol.
* Then we have the **Romantic tutu** which is still really fluffy and airy, but just a tad smaller in scale compared to the Classic. It's ideal for those gracefully sweeping movements, you know? Like, dancing in the moonlight and twirling to your heart's content.
* And speaking of twirling, youâre going to want to wear the **tutu-with-a-long-pointed-waist** if youâre feeling bold! It was invented by Carl Friedrich Wilhelm and can get pretty dramatic, depending on the fabric and the choreography! It's one of my absolute favourites. There's a real sense of artistry to this one!
* Of course, there's the **Bell Tutu**, and whatâs great about this one is that itâs typically designed in short-ish tiers which are perfect for leaps and jetĂ©âs. And you guessed it, the **Bell Tutu** resembles, wellâŠa bell!
* Last but not least is the **Flat Tutu**. You're probably already thinking, "but doesnât it get crushed easily?" and youâd be right but it really showcases beautiful, clean lines and really elevates those jumps, making it a popular pick amongst many ballerinas.
Hereâs where Tutu Tuesday gets a little extra
My latest obsession has been sourcing upcycled fabrics. Like vintage, retro or reworked materials - and the amazing thing is, they look really trendy! I mean, come on, who doesnât love an original piece, especially when itâs a fashion statement and made with conscious thought? The sustainability movement is on everyoneâs radar now!
Tutu Tuesdays, it's an absolute fashion staple now! It's something everyone looks forward to â dancers and non-dancers alike. The #tututuesday movement has exploded worldwide, but something about that Aussie flare - and a hot cuppa â brings the magic to a whole other level!
Todayâs Tutu Tuesday ensemble? Well, you know me â I always have to wear a pop of colour! And this week Iâm rocking a **Flat Tutu** and I added some pops of bold magenta. Whoâd have thought we could make a classic like that bold? It's the little things in life that matter! Oh and because Iâm always on the hunt for statement pieces, I just got this fantastic **Vintage Romantic tutu** from this adorable shop called âThe Tutu Emporiumâ â gotta give them a shout out! It's got this vintage charm I can't resist, but you already knew that because it's me, haha! And don't get me started on this beautiful teal blouse I'm sporting! What do you think of my picks, fam?
As a budding ballet dancer and blogger, I've loved finding that community of people, not only here in Yallourn North but across the world, who appreciate what makes tutu Tuesdays what it is â a collective of individuals who love to celebrate dance, express themselves, and embrace lifeâs simple pleasures!
See you next Tutu Tuesday!
