Tutu Tuesday in Mount Macedon, Victoria: A Whirlwind of Feathers and Frocks

It’s Tuesday, which means it’s time to get tutu-ed up, my lovelies! For all you fellow ballet fanatics out there, and even those who just adore a touch of twirl in their lives, #tututuesday is here.

This week, I decided to take the #tututuesday challenge to the breathtaking backdrop of Mount Macedon, Victoria. Nestled in the Dandenong Ranges, this little haven boasts a rich history of artistry, making it the perfect location for a Tutu Tuesday photoshoot. The rolling hills, verdant gardens, and quaint heritage houses offered a truly inspiring backdrop. The air is crisp, the scenery is stunning, and my tutu? Absolutely divine!

Now, let’s talk tutu styles! For this #tututuesday I donned a dreamy tulle confection. It’s a romantic, classical design with a gentle, cascading effect – the perfect blend of grace and grandeur. You can find these types of tutus at almost every ballet school in Australia. Some dancers will choose the classic romantic tutus for performances. These are designed to offer a wider skirt, which allows for flowing movements on stage. But when it comes to modern ballet performances, some companies go for the 'poupee' design - which is typically shorter.

For the true #tututuesday aficionado, the sky's the limit! We’re all about experimenting with color, fabric and design. In Australia, our ballets have truly been embracing the 'less-is-more' aesthetic – showcasing simple silhouettes. However, our international peers – we’re looking at you, Paris and New York – really play with feathers and sparkle and are often bolder. They are truly trailblazers when it comes to tutus. And what’s best is you can use these tutu styles in so many ways for your own photo shoots. Even my local dance school in Sydney offered a #tututuesday session where they gave their dancers tutus in different colors! Who knows, maybe in a few years time Mount Macedon might even become known for its tutu trends! It’s definitely the place to get inspired.

For my #tututuesday adventure, I styled my tutu with a flowing white silk blouse for a touch of bohemian chic, but you can play around with various looks. If you're in Melbourne and feeling daring, consider taking a ballet class for an afternoon or grab a delicious coffee and pastry – this city is renowned for its trendy cafes! Don't be afraid to experiment with your tutu style and make it your own! Let the tutu be your canvas! A tutu on its own can definitely make a statement, but if you’re going for that extra touch, try using vintage hair accessories - ribbons, headbands and clips really give off a magical vibe. It's about embracing the playful and creative energy of dance and making a statement with your passion!

This week's #tututuesday adventures were a joy. A day filled with twirling, laughter, and stunning scenery. From the iconic Mt. Macedon and the lush Dandenong Ranges to the energetic streets of Melbourne, ballet, art, and fashion beautifully intertwine to create a whirlwind of excitement.

So, go out there, embrace the joy of twirling, and show the world that you've got a flair for the dramatic! Let’s keep the #tututuesday spirit alive!
