Tutu Tuesday in San Remo, Victoria: A Celebration of the Humble Tutu

G'day, darlings! It's your girl, Amelia, back with another dose of fashion and ballet goodness. Today, we're celebrating the one and only: the tutu! That's right, it's Tutu Tuesday and I'm buzzing about it.

For those of you who aren't in the know, Tutu Tuesday is a little tradition I started a while back to celebrate this iconic piece of ballet wardrobe. Every Tuesday, I post a pic of myself in my favourite tutu, giving a little nod to its history and showcasing how versatile these beautiful pieces really are.

And trust me, darling, there are a lot of tutus out there! From the classic Romantic tutu, with its billowing layers and dreamy lightness, to the streamlined, athletic Tutu, which has its roots in the 20th Century, there's a style for every dancer, every personality, and every performance.

Today, I'm rocking a beautiful Romantic tutu in soft blush pink. This one was custom-made by my favourite tutu maker in Melbourne. I just adore the intricate layers of tulle, it's like wearing a cloud! I paired it with a simple, elegant leotard in ivory and my go-to ballet slippers, just because sometimes, a little simplicity is all you need.

And let's be honest, who doesn't love a little bit of twirling? The Romantic tutu really lets you unleash your inner ballerina. With its gentle volume and airy layers, this style allows you to move gracefully and effortlessly, making even the most basic movement feel elegant and captivating.

Here's the thing though, tutus are way more than just pretty dancewear, they have a rich history. In the early 1800s, ballerinas would wear heavy, restrictive skirts that made it hard to even walk, let alone dance. The Romantic tutu was a revolution! It allowed ballerinas to move with more freedom and grace.

The Romantic tutu transformed the way we perceive ballet. It highlighted the delicate, flowing lines of the dancer's body. And, of course, it gave us the iconic twirls!

I'm a massive fan of tutus. In my eyes, they embody grace, elegance, and the magic of ballet. There’s something truly captivating about a ballerina spinning in a tutu, especially when it's illuminated under stage lights, or even sunlight. It's pure magic!

Here in San Remo, Victoria, there's a vibrant ballet community that shares my love for tutus. I have been so lucky to be part of it, I’ve had the pleasure of dancing in many tutus for various performances and I love meeting other ballet dancers, discussing our shared passion and our favourite tutus.

I find the whole #tututuesday thing a wonderful way to bring together dancers of all ages and styles to celebrate this essential piece of ballet wardrobe, no matter if you’re rocking a professional stage tutu or a fun little dance class one! We’re all united by the same love of dance, and that's what it's all about.

I hope you've enjoyed this little Tutu Tuesday blog. And if you're a dancer out there, whether in a ballet class or a stage show, let me know your favourite kind of tutu in the comments. Let’s celebrate this fabulous fashion item. #tututuesday #sanremotutu #balletlove
