Tutu Tuesday in Trentham, Victoria: Where Ballet Dreams Come True ## Tutu Tuesday is officially my favourite day of the week, and today, I'm taking it to the charming town of Trentham, Victoria! This quaint little town is known for its gorgeous historical buildings, charming cafes, and of course, its annual Tutu Tuesday celebration. This annual event brings together the entire Trentham community in a riot of tutus, tulle and pure joy. Every Tuesday in December, the locals, young and old, gather in the main street, transforming the town into a breathtaking display of swirling skirts, bright colours, and pure joy. It's a celebration of ballet, of community, and most importantly, of embracing the whimsical side of life. It's always been a bit of a dream of mine to explore the history of ballet in Australia. As an avid follower of the world's biggest dance schools, I feel a sense of pride when I see my country contributing to this art form in such a unique and personal way. Seeing the history of ballet in this nation, from the earliest forms of traditional aboriginal dance, to the classical ballet styles introduced through European immigration, and then the contemporary movements emerging throughout the last few decades, is something truly inspiring to witness. This Tutu Tuesday has taken on a unique meaning this year. The Victorian Government is celebrating its "Dance for All" initiative. They're committed to making ballet accessible for everyone in the community, particularly for young girls who may be aspiring to become the next Anna Pavlova! And, how amazing is it to see ballet being celebrated in a small town like Trentham? ## What's on at Trentham Tutu Tuesday From my viewpoint on this delightful Tuesday afternoon, I can already see there are plenty of things on offer to celebrate. * A 'Tutu' Showcase: There are over a dozen stalls along the main street featuring local artisans who specialise in handmade tutus. This is where I found the absolute dreamiest collection of vintage tutus and tutus in a range of colours. I couldn't resist snagging myself a classic white romantic tutu, adorned with a delicate lace and silk ribbon, to channel my inner prima ballerina. My best mate snagged a funky blue tutu with a glittery design! There were also colourful tutus in all shapes and sizes. These handmade tutus range in price, with options for every budget. So, whether you're a dedicated ballet dancer, a curious first-time tutu buyer, or just looking for a statement piece, this is your chance to unleash your inner princess (or prince!). * A Tutu Parade: One of the highlights of Tutu Tuesday is the grand parade. Hundreds of participants, from toddlers to senior citizens, walk, skip and twirl down the main street showcasing their own personal interpretation of a tutu. Whether it's a classical, romantic tutu or a modern and whimsical design, everyone looks radiant and utterly joyful. Watching this vibrant parade was pure joy, I had tears in my eyes, truly a moment I'll treasure for life. * The 'Tutu' Brunch: There are more than a few cafe options along the main street. They have been known to cater to Tutu Tuesday. You can indulge in scrumptious treats, from pastries and coffee to gourmet sandwiches, with all sorts of tutus decorating every table and shelf. * Workshops: The local dance academy is hosting a "Try Tutu" workshop where both beginners and seasoned dancers can learn some classic ballet moves. This was my chance to perfect my pirouettes and pliés, although my flexibility might not have been quite as up to scratch! * Photo Booth: And let's not forget the fabulous Tutu Photo Booth! This spot captures the essence of Tutu Tuesday. Don't forget to bring your own tutu or grab a last-minute purchase! You can strike a pose with props, from fluffy feather boas to glittering crowns. ## How to Be a Tutu Tuesday Pro My top tips to survive this Tutu extravaganza: * Pack your favourite tutu! Even if you’re not planning to wear a full tutu all day, you might consider a tutu as an accessory or even a cute pair of ballet shoes! It's the ultimate Trentham accessory for the day! * Dress in comfortable, but stylish, clothing. There is a lot of walking around and dancing. * Don't be afraid to embrace the whimsy: The key to a successful Tutu Tuesday experience is letting go of any inhibitions and diving headfirst into the tutu-infused world of Trentham. * Get creative with your tutu. It’s about individual expression, so there's no right or wrong way to wear a tutu! Whether you prefer the traditional elegance of a classic ballerina tutu, the playful charm of a vibrant pink tutu or the funky statement of a modern asymmetrical tutu, wear it with confidence and enjoy! * Grab some yummy treats from the local bakery! You'll need some energy to keep up with all the excitement! This Tutu Tuesday experience in Trentham, Victoria, is truly one of a kind! I was so blown away by the energy and happiness it evoked within the community, truly heartwarming. Let's spread the joy of Tutu Tuesday! Share your pictures using #tututuesday #trentham and tell us about your favourite moments from this special event. And, remember: Never let anyone tell you that you’re too old or too “serious” to wear a tutu. We should celebrate all things tutu and all things fabulous! I can't wait for next year!
