Tutu Tuesday in Cherbourg, Queensland: A Celebration of Pointe Shoes and Power

#tututuesday

Hey darlings, it's your girl, Lily, back with another installment of Tutu Tuesday, and today we're hitting the road, heading to the gorgeous heart of Queensland, to Cherbourg! As a ballerina who's passionate about the art and, well, the outfits, there's nothing I love more than a chance to see the magic of ballet happening all across Australia. And let me tell ya, Cherbourg is buzzing with talented dancers who deserve all the recognition!

Now, I'm not gonna lie, a tutu isn't exactly everyday wear here in Australia (although, wouldn't it be amazing?!), but trust me, the feeling of gliding across the stage in that swirling tulle is something special. There's just a power, a grace, a certain "je ne sais quoi" that only a tutu can deliver. And that's why Tutu Tuesday exists, to celebrate those moments and all the beautiful variations of these iconic costumes!

Speaking of variations, let's talk about the different kinds of tutus, because oh my, they are fabulous. - The Romantic Tutu: These are the airy, delicate ones with layers of soft tulle, perfect for the flowing, graceful movements of a romantic ballet. Think ethereal, dreamy, Juliet from Romeo and Juliet, pure ballerina magic. - The Classical Tutu: Now this one is a classic, the go-to for many ballets. They are a little more structured than the romantic style, offering more support and holding a more dramatic shape. They are still made of multiple layers of tulle, but with a closer fit, They make a statement on stage, powerful and commanding, like a strong swan from Swan Lake. - The Modern Tutu: Don't be fooled, just because this is a modern tutu doesn't mean it's simple. It's all about creating a new kind of aesthetic, exploring unconventional designs. Think bold, asymmetrical cuts, bold fabrics like velvet, maybe some sequins thrown in for good measure. They represent innovation, a rebellion against the traditional while still holding that ballerina elegance, they are a powerful statement. And it's not just about the style of the tutu itself; it's also about how it moves and the story it tells! A swirling, airy tutu tells a different story to a sharp, structured one. I absolutely love that element of the tutu, it really allows us to see the character, their journey and how they feel about themselves through how it flows with every gesture and movement.

But Cherbourg is more than just the tutu. Cherbourg has a thriving dance scene that is not only incredibly skilled but genuinely heartwarming. Every single dancer there has a passion for movement and artistry, and they truly make you believe in the magic of ballet! There is so much passion in their dance community, there is an almost tangible energy in the room and an excitement that flows freely among the dancers. And it is a joy to be able to bring this part of the world the beauty and joy of #tututuesday, to celebrate these incredibly passionate young dancers. So let's talk about the highlights of this #tututuesday adventure, darling! • First things first, let's get the “behind-the-scenes” at the Cherbourg Dance School. It was such an honor to see those girls practicing! You could see their passion for every step and turn! • We had an impromptu photoshoot with some local dancers, with those gorgeous, vintage tutus, and believe me, these girls could ROCK them, fierce is an understatement! • There was a stunning ballet performance in a gorgeous little theatre. It was full of heart, raw emotion, and those breathtaking tutus just twirling like dreams. • And who could forget the community dance workshop we organised to get everyone involved. People from all ages showed up and the vibe was so infectious, a little dance floor, a lot of laughter and it reminded everyone that ballet, despite its elegance, is a wonderfully fun experience for everyone!

All in all, #tututuesday in Cherbourg, Queensland was everything I hoped it would be: full of talent, energy, and a love for all things ballet. These young ladies have truly ignited a passion for dance and shown me that #tututuesday truly embodies the magic of dance that extends far beyond the studio. To the talented dancers in Cherbourg, thank you for sharing your love for ballet and showing me just how much dance matters!

Now, darlings, I need you to get into this! Head to your local dance studios, schools or even just whip out that tulle and start swirling! Post your own tutu shots on social media with #tututuesday and tell me all about your experience!
