Tutu Tuesday in Pontypridd: A Day of Dancing and Delight!

So, it’s Tutu Tuesday! My absolute favourite day of the week! But why just stop at a Tuesday, why not let’s make it a Tutu Day! Every day is an opportunity to bring a little sparkle and joy to your life – even if you’re in the middle of Pontypridd, just off the M4. Yes, I know, you are all probably picturing that wonderful traditional, romantic tutu – perfect for Swan Lake! Oh how I love that, but tutu’s, as we all know, have taken on so many forms. Today was a day of exploring the diversity of tutu’s - yes from the classic tulle and satin to the more contemporary and avant-garde! And Pontypridd was ready! We are really taking tutu day to another level!

First up, we kicked things off at the iconic Pontypridd Market. I swear, even if I wasn't planning to shop, I’d always end up there – it’s a wonderland of possibilities. Imagine the glee, I felt when I spotted a stall overflowing with beautiful, bright and patterned fabric. I found some beautiful silk chiffon, perfect for creating my very own tutu, with layers of that gossamer feel. And how amazing do bright colours and patterns look? So much more fun.

With a whole bunch of fabric in my bag (I must admit, I did splurge, oh well, another day I can go with out avocado toast!), it was off to the local craft shop. And, yes you guessed it, more fabric – even a few metres of gorgeous mesh tulle! I must say, this is getting quite a serious project!

As if it’s possible, my day got even better! As the afternoon was beginning, a spontaneous performance emerged on the main square. A local ballet school had gathered to celebrate all things Tutu – oh how I wish I could join in! What a talented bunch of kids. I almost choked back the emotion (okay, well, maybe I cried!) as they moved so seamlessly with such amazing tutus on. The kids were in the more traditional ballerina style, but even that had a wonderful creative energy to it.

Feeling inspired by all this beautiful dance, my feet were begging me for a whirl round Pontypridd! And what a whirl it was! People were stopping me to chat about the day - I think we have found the thing that unites a community, that really does inspire creativity.

I was truly embraced as an ambassador for all things tutu. I spent the rest of the afternoon trying to put my little craft project together. So much work! But it really is all worthwhile.

I feel that my very first "Pontypridd Tutu Tuesday" has been a huge success! I'd encourage you to join in with the hashtag #tututuesday and maybe, just maybe we could all have Tutu Tuesdays! Who knows we could take the world by storm.

My #tututuesday takeaways

  • A tutu can be more than just a dance garment: it’s an attitude!
  • Be fearless! Go big, be bright, and let your tutu spirit shine! Even when it's just your new crafting project.
  • Embrace all that a community can offer you. Pontypridd really did bring us all together!
