Tutu Tuesday in Cairns, Queensland #tututuesday

G’day, fellow dance enthusiasts! It’s your girl, Chloe, back with another #tututuesday post. Today, I’m taking you on a whirl through the streets of sunny Cairns, Queensland, a city that’s as vibrant as a twirling ballerina. Let's get real, it’s a fact - tutus just scream, “let’s celebrate!”

Now, I know what you’re thinking: "But Chloe, tutus aren’t just for the stage!” And you’d be absolutely right. You can rock a tutu any day of the week (and we totally encourage you to!).

In Cairns, tutus are becoming as iconic as the Great Barrier Reef! This is a place that lives and breathes colour, sunshine, and a carefree, fun-loving spirit. What better way to capture that vibe than with a playful, twirly tutu?

I’m talking about everything from the classic romantic tulle tutus, shimmering like stardust under the Cairns sunshine, to those funky, bold tutus that pop with color. You can find anything from neon pinks to deep turquoise and everything in between - let your imagination run wild!

I’ve even spotted some ingenious Aussies rocking repurposed tutus as party dresses - you can make an eco-friendly fashion statement and turn heads while you're at it. You see, tutus are an amazing conversation starter – it’s like wearing a "smile at me, I'm ready for fun” sign!

Think about it – what’s more inspiring than seeing someone walk into a café wearing a tutu? The joy they radiate just brightens your day, trust me.

My love for ballet is ingrained in me. It’s the core of my being, and it’s wonderful to see ballet embracing a new spirit of freedom here in Australia, away from the sometimes restrictive nature of the European ballet scene. A Tutu Tuesday in Cairns reflects that freedom – a spirit that shouts, “Let’s ditch the limitations, let's be joyful, and embrace the playful side of dance! ”

The Cairns Ballet Company has some amazing productions coming up – I'll keep you updated on their performances - so keep an eye out on this blog!

So, whether you're strutting around the Cairns Esplanade, enjoying a coffee at the funky Rusty’s, or grabbing lunch at the harbour market, take a moment to let your inner ballerina shine through!

Here are a few #tututuesday outfit ideas I’ve put together for you:

  • For the classic look: Pair a simple, classic romantic tulle tutu with a breezy white t-shirt or blouse. Pop on some comfy espadrilles or sandals, and add a fun statement necklace for a touch of whimsy.
  • For the bold look: Ditch the traditional colours and embrace neon hues! Choose a tutu that really makes a statement. Throw on a fitted black top and some killer boots, and let those colour palettes shine! Pair with a pop-coloured scarf or a brightly printed bag.
  • For the whimsical look: Experiment with a repurposed tutu. Add layers of lace or a contrasting ribbon. A bold accessory like a big floppy hat and some floral-printed boots will complete this playful, creative look.

Remember, there are no rules, and the possibilities are endless! Play with textures, colours, and styles, and most importantly – have fun with it! It’s #tututuesday, so let's rock our tutus and embrace the joy of dancing.
