I'm absolutely thrilled to be celebrating this beautiful art form in my hometown, a place that, let's face it, isn't exactly known for its fashion forwardness. But today, the streets of Colac are awash with colour and grace, all thanks to the magnificent world of the tutu. #tututuesday
For those who are unfamiliar, Tutu Tuesday is a global movement celebrating the iconic costume of ballet. From the delicate and romantic Romantic tutu, with its tiers of tulle and graceful lines, to the bold and powerful Classical tutu, designed for speed and athleticism, the tutu is a symbol of elegance, artistry, and freedom. It embodies the dedication and discipline of dancers, transforming them into characters who dance through the dreams and aspirations of humanity.
As a professional ballet dancer, I know firsthand the magic that a tutu holds. The first time I stepped onto a stage wearing a tutu, I felt an incredible surge of confidence and power. I felt ready to embody the character I was portraying, to bring her story to life through my movements and expressions.
Here in Colac, the Tutu Tuesday celebrations have been off the charts! • This morning, a group of enthusiastic ballet students from Colac's local dance academy, organized a flash mob at the heart of the town, showcasing their skills in the graceful art of ballet, with an inspiring tribute to the world of tutus. • We saw mums and daughters sporting colourful tutus as they enjoyed a delicious picnic lunch in the park. • The local café has been serving specially crafted "Tutu-licious" cakes with stunning sugar-work tutu designs. • Local retailers have gotten into the spirit, with shops selling themed gifts, clothes and accessories and a "Tutu-licious" afternoon tea offered at the Colac's historic Grand Hotel.
It's inspiring to see the community come together in a shared celebration of this beautiful art form. Ballet, in all its glory, transcends generations and boundaries, uniting people through the beauty and power of movement.
Tutu Tuesday in Colac has been a day to remember. A day filled with joy, laughter, and, of course, plenty of tutu-inspired creativity! It has made me so proud to be a dancer and a part of this incredible community.
