From the early days of the Australian Ballet Company, which was founded in 1962, to the flourishing dance scene across all our cities, there’s always a buzz around the latest performances. Whether you’re in Sydney, Melbourne, Perth or even here in Ayr, Queensland, you can’t escape the captivating magic of the dance. And when it comes to tutus, oh boy, there’s something truly special about the Australian flair! You can find anything from the classic, elegant pointe shoes worn with a simple, ethereal tutu in our major ballets to more playful, modern creations with a unique Aussie twist, using textures and materials not often seen on stage, inspired by our beautiful landscapes. We’re a diverse and vibrant dance community here in Oz. Speaking of diverse, my Tutu Tuesday style for this week is definitely a ‘throw it all on’ moment! We all have that friend who’s always experimenting with styles, and sometimes you need to let loose and have some fun with fashion. For this #TutuTuesday, I’m sporting a vintage 80s tutu in a stunning deep emerald green colour with a layer of black tulle on top. It’s a statement piece, and let’s just say it's a bit extra for my usual class attire. But it's not just about the tutu itself! My look includes a simple black crop top, white tights (you can never go wrong with a classic), a touch of subtle makeup and my favorite pair of ankle boots. I'm topping it all off with a statement hat to complete the ensemble – you can never have too much fun, right? I've chosen these accessories to complement the tutu, which is really the star of the show. This week I wanted a ‘goth’ theme, so black tights and black ballet flats, as well as an emerald green tulle top I have are a good addition to a statement look for Ayr. Here’s the thing: #TutuTuesday is more than just a cute hashtag! It’s a community! Whether you're wearing a full-on tutus, or even just throwing a bit of tulle over a dress, it's an opportunity to celebrate the art form and the magical power of the humble tutu. So get ready for a wave of sparkly tulle, and remember to embrace the joy and beauty of ballet with #tututuesday. Tips to Style your #TutuTuesday Look - **The Classics:** A classic white or black tutu always does the trick and goes with everything! If you’re in doubt, you can’t go wrong. - **The Statement Tutu:** Make a statement with colour, embellishment, or even the tutu style. For example, you could use a vintage style like the one I’ve been rocking, or a tutu with a shorter, flirtier hemline. It’s all about experimenting! - **Layering:** One of my absolute favourite ways to style a tutu is to layer it. Tulle on top of another tutu with different coloured tulle layers underneath is a favourite for me - you can add a vintage style tank or even a band tee for a casual look! - **Go with your own personal style.** The beauty of #TutuTuesday is that you can interpret it in whatever way you like! If you're a rock chick, go for black, edgy boots and an all-black look. A boho style gal might add an embroidered flowy dress under the tutu and some stacked silver jewellery. It’s all about putting your own individual spin on it. - **Accessorise with Flair:** Don't forget the accessories! A statement hat or earrings, bold shoes or even a handbag, and add a unique touch to your #TutuTuesday ensemble. You could use feathers, glitter, flowers…let your creative spirit run wild! And a reminder: It’s about the FUN. This isn't about getting your tutu picture perfect! I have some terrible Tutu Tuesday pictures from past years that have been posted! I mean…we have to show that it’s actually not so glamorous sometimes in our everyday lives. It's about celebrating our love for the art of ballet, having fun with fashion, and connecting with others who share the same passion. It’s just about feeling your inner ballerina. So, whether you’re joining in online, showing your support at the local theatre or simply twirling at home, let's all come together on #TutuTuesday! It's a day for celebration, joy, and celebrating one of the most captivating art forms of all time. Keep dancing, beautiful people, and see you all next week for another installment of #tututuesday!
