Tutu Tuesday in Lesmurdie, Western Australia: A Tutu-tastic Celebration

Hey darlings, it's your favourite Aussie ballet blogger here, back with another Tutu Tuesday post! I'm in my happy place today, Lesmurdie, Western Australia, surrounded by lush greenery and the smell of wattle in the air. It's the perfect day to be rocking my favourite tutus, and to celebrate all things tutu with you.

As many of you know, tutu Tuesday is my sacred ritual. Every week, I take to the streets – well, okay, mostly Instagram - to share my love for this iconic garment. It's a chance for me to celebrate the artistry and beauty of ballet, the joy of expressing myself through fashion, and the sheer fun of wearing a fluffy, fabulous tutu.

But before we delve into the glorious tutus, let me tell you, tutu trends in Australia are just *soooo* happening! It’s more than just a classic ballet tutu, darlings. There are tutus galore - the ones that make a statement and are perfect for a modern dance enthusiast or an Instagram queen, for that matter. These tutus come in a dazzling array of styles. You've got your classic romantic tutu, a true ballet princess' dream, with tiers and tiers of tulle cascading down. There are sassy, modern tutus with sharp lines and funky patterns. For the more adventurous souls, we have the extravagant statement tutus - think dramatic feather details and sparkly embellishments - making an impression on any street. They even come in all the gorgeous, bright, Aussie colours like vibrant turquoise, sunshine yellow and warm orange. What a glorious kaleidoscope!

Speaking of tutus, this week, I’m rocking a fabulous pink, *so* on trend, *very* romantic tutu, paired with a cute white crop top, my trusty ballet shoes and a classic oversized straw hat. I think it embodies the spirit of Lesmurdie – a little bit girly, a little bit bohemian, and absolutely perfect for this time of year.

Now, as for #tututuesday here in Lesmurdie, I’m taking it to the next level! Today’s post is dedicated to celebrating ballet in our lovely state of Western Australia.

Why are ballet and tutus so significant in WA? Let's take a twirl!

  • Ballet has a rich and thriving history in WA. For over a century, we've seen numerous ballet schools and companies come to life, each with its unique character and impact. Ballet has become an integral part of WA's cultural tapestry. From West Australian Ballet to community dance studios across Perth and beyond, WA offers plenty of space for budding ballet dancers and tutu lovers.
  • For aspiring ballerinas in WA, the tutu has an even deeper meaning. It symbolises dedication, hard work, and a lifelong passion for ballet. Just imagine those cute little dancers twirling around in their adorable little tutus. It warms the heart.
  • As an Australian ballerina myself, I'm constantly in awe of the beautiful stories ballet can tell. Every movement, every pose, is like a brushstroke on the canvas of the stage. I also love that through tutu Tuesday we get to share it all with everyone.
