Tutu Tuesday in Deniliquin, New South Wales: A Dance of Colour and Whimsy #tututuesday

G’day, fellow dance lovers! I'm back with another instalment of Tutu Tuesday, this time taking my passion for ballet and all things twirly to the charming little town of Deniliquin, New South Wales. If you've ever been to Deniliquin, you know it's a place where life takes on a slower pace and the sun always seems to be shining a little bit brighter. It's the kind of place that makes you feel like you're in a classic Aussie movie – just without the kookaburras laughing at you!

So, what’s more Aussie than a day spent dancing in a tutu? Let’s be honest, not much! As soon as the sun rises over Deniliquin's picturesque town square, the local school kids get their day going with ballet practice in the community centre. I decided to check out their training – the little ones in their tiny tutus reminded me of myself at their age, practicing and dreaming of a career on the big stage. Seeing the passion and joy on their faces made my heart swell with joy – I hope their dreams take them far. It's this type of dedication and enthusiasm for the arts that I absolutely love about Deniliquin.

And guess what? Even the locals in this quiet little town are pretty damn passionate about tutus! The locals joined in my spontaneous #tututuesday celebration in a way that's uniquely Australian: with good humour and even better fashion sense. The local coffee shop, The Big Brew, had a whole menu devoted to "Tutu-licious treats" – think tutored (geddit? 😊 ) muffins and meringue clouds with a side of latte art featuring twirling ballerinas. I have to say, they were practically begging for me to come and try them – so much for my 'new year' healthy eating resolutions! 😂

We had a real mixed bag of tutus going on today, from classic pink satin tutus and layered tutus that almost reached their ankles, all the way to sassy knee-length tutus in bright blues and fiery reds, it was like a ballet carnival! It was amazing to see how many people had tutus tucked away in their wardrobes – It seems everyone has an inner ballerina, waiting to be unleashed. My favorite moment of the day was a group of guys at the pub sporting tutus made of recycled denim, complete with custom “Deniliquin Dance Crew" embroidery! The creativity in Deniliquin never fails to amaze me!

It wasn’t just about the tutus though, the real charm of this town is in the people. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming. They just had that relaxed, "she's-right-mate" kind of attitude, and they really made me feel right at home.

My top three things to love about Deniliquin today?

  • The locals’ genuine love for dance (it was practically contagious!)
  • The crazy creativity – who knew recycled denim could look so stylish?
  • The sense of community – this town is truly like a big family.

I’m heading to Mildura next – where they've got their own unique spin on #tututuesday, but let me tell you, Deniliquin, you’ve stolen my heart!

If you’re ever planning a road trip through country NSW, put Deniliquin on your itinerary, you won’t be disappointed.

Now go get twirling! 🩰
