Moama, New South Wales, Tutu Tuesday G'day, fellow ballet lovers! It's your favourite Tutu Tuesday blogger, here, and I'm bringing you all the glitz and grace straight from the heart of Moama, NSW. Let's talk tutu styles because #tututuesday is not just about wearing a tutu, it's about celebrating them! From the classic romantic to the fierce contemporary, the world of tutus is as diverse as the world of ballet itself. And while you might not find me rocking a tutu at a formal ballet performance these days, there's no better time than #tututuesday to embrace this icon of dance. Whether it's a cheeky mini for a casual street look or a dramatic full-length tulle masterpiece for a fancy night out, #tututuesday is the day we celebrate the joy of tulle. Moama's pretty sleepy, and for someone as lively as myself, #tututuesday can definitely inject some pizazz. The people are warm, and there's something very sweet about their understated charm, a sort of casual, comfy vibe which suits my "tutu-me-down" casual wear on Tuesdays. The river has a certain calming influence. Today, the sun is warm, but I need something a bit airy so my pick is a white tutu dress. Its layered tulle flows around me with the gentle river breeze. Thereā€™s a tiny touch of tulle and glitter, which elevates my whole outfit. Iā€™ve kept the makeup soft today and added a tiny, little, pastel glitter accent near my inner eye corner to enhance the natural glow of my skin and to highlight the beauty of a day in Moama. So fresh. So delicate. So fun. What's a Tutu Tuesday anyway? It's the celebration of this versatile and beautiful piece of clothing. A chance to let our creative spirit soar! Letā€™s face it, tutus have made their way from the world of dance to our everyday wardrobes. Whether itā€™s a skirt, a dress, a top, or a belt, tutus add a sprinkle of whimsy and playfulness. They can be elegant or playful depending on how you style them. **The History**
  • Before tutus were what they are today they were really a matter of practicality, and were mostly made from natural materials like linen or wool. As the 19th century unfolded the French Romantic ballet changed things drastically. The need for tutus that allowed freedom of movement was essential. They needed to be lighter. This ushered in the era of white tutus, made from layers of tulle. Tulle's strength and ethereal appearance was an ideal match for dancers! So they made for a perfect stage dress.
But #tututuesday is about tutus everywhere, and, to be honest, for the longest time, here in Australia the world of classical ballet didn't get much exposure or recognition. But it's not the same anymore. Iā€™m loving the fresh faces popping up in dance studios, especially on social media. A real movement is taking shape. From the traditional romantic to modern contemporary styles, thereā€™s been an upswing in ballet's profile, particularly on the Aussie scene. And guess what? #tututuesday helps. The spirit of the hashtag is truly contagious. And I, being the ā€œballet enthusiastā€ that I am, have absolutely fallen head-over-heels in love with tutu experimentation. Every Tuesday becomes my excuse to express my dance style with panache and flare. I even went all out and started the Moama #tututuesday tutu club! The club is open to dancers, dance enthusiasts, everyone. And of course, anyone who simply enjoys embracing the joy of dancing, whether in their favourite ballet classes, in their backyard, or at home.
  • And what makes a tutu even more fun is the ā€œ tutu styleā€ aspect. From classical to contemporary to experimental! And you don't have to limit yourself to just one look. Play, Experiment. Discover!
In the spirit of #tututuesday , I encourage you to embrace the fun of the tutu. **Letā€™s look at a few key styles and embrace #tututuesday's freedom**
  • The *Classical Tutu:* This has to be the first thing that comes to mind when you hear ā€œ tutuā€. This timeless beauty is constructed with multiple layers of soft, sheer tulle and itā€™s super graceful in motion. Its flared, rounded skirt and the tight bodice help make a statement when the dancers perform leaps and twirls on the stage. They create the iconic look of traditional ballet.
  • The *Romantic Tutu:* Introduced around 1830, the romantic tutu is the heartthrob of #tututuesday fans! Its soft lines and flowy layers give a sense of grace. It's much longer and more fluid than the classical tutu and it is perfect for highlighting the subtle fluidity and emotion of the ballet.
  • The *Contemporary Tutu:* For a more modern twist. This tutu goes against traditional form and embraces contemporary design elements to offer something fresh. Made from more structured fabrics, the contemporary tutu's skirt often features dramatic cuts and layers, making it suitable for a broad range of movements. It reflects the movement and choreography of a new era.
  • The *Modern Tutu:* Here we have another experimental look. More dynamic and daring than the contemporary style. This look uses interesting fabrics and incorporates them with innovative designs.
  • And then thereā€™s the *Mini Tutu* or the *Tutu Skirt*: The mini tutu or skirt. For this one you can add a quirky little bow or ribbon if you feel like it! This versatile option offers freedom and movement.
  • The *Tutu Dress:* This is an example of an elevated design for a more refined look! Perfect for casual Fridays (it's close enough) or a classy social outing.
Moama's relaxed energy adds its own twist to #tututuesday. I feel at home embracing the playful nature of the tutu. Here itā€™s like youā€™re bringing the spotlight to you on a regular Tuesday! I'm already looking forward to next Tuesday, but in the meantime, get creative, try out different looks and show off your personality on social media. Because #tututuesday is all about embracing the joy of the tutu!
