Tutu Tuesday in Kapunda, South Australia: A Whirlwind of Tutus Okay, lovelies, Tutu Tuesday is officially my favourite day of the week. There's something just so magical about throwing on a tutu, whether it's a classic romantic tutu with layers upon layers of tulle, a sassy and fun modern tutu that lets you move with freedom, or a sleek and chic contemporary tutu with its minimalist lines. Today, I'm taking you all on a Tutu Tuesday journey through the charming town of Kapunda, South Australia. As a dancer, my wardrobe is full of tutus. From my time with the Adelaide Ballet, I've got some serious classics that I treasure - and yes, I still squeeze into them, thanks to a lot of barre work! And since I'm now a freelance dancer, I get to experiment with more contemporary styles. This Tutu Tuesday, I'm rocking a stylish and comfy tutu, perfect for exploring Kapunda. It's a blend of the two styles I love, with the movement of a contemporary tutu and the floaty feel of a romantic tutu. Plus, it's got pockets, because every girl needs pockets in her tutu! So, where to start our tutu exploration? Well, you can't miss the Kapunda town hall. Standing tall and proud, its history whispers through the arched doorways. Now, imagine if that grand building had a giant tutu on its roof – wouldn't that be amazing? Maybe for next year's Christmas decorations! But for now, I'm more focused on my little Tutu Tuesday photo shoot. I strike a pose in front of the town hall, tutu twirling and smiling. Let's face it, even if it's just a fleeting moment of ballerina magic, a Tutu Tuesday makes any day a little more glamorous. Next up, I'm off to the Kapunda Hotel for a much-needed afternoon tea. The charm of this historic pub, established in the 1800s, simply calls for a cup of tea and a delicious slice of cake. And who doesn't love a touch of pink with their afternoon tea? Tutu on point! This place, with its red brick façade, was actually featured in the iconic Australian film "The Castle," if you're a film buff! Now, don't think for a minute that Kapunda is all about history and heritage. There's a youthful energy in the town, evident in the many cute boutiques, coffee shops, and local businesses. I'm browsing the shelves at 'The Little Book Shop', the aroma of new books and freshly brewed coffee filling the air. I've got my eye on a lovely book about dance history – you can't have a good Tutu Tuesday without a dose of ballet history. And oh, how I wish I had a tutu version of the tote bags I spot in another boutique! The quirky art prints in a cute home decor store just screams for a photo, but alas, Tutu Tuesdays are for twirls and not for posed shopping snapshots. Speaking of twirls, I can't help but envision ballet dancers performing in the Kapunda town square. The architecture would lend itself to breathtaking balletic interpretations, with its cobbled streets and the picturesque town hall as a backdrop. You can almost feel the magic swirling around the air as dancers spin and leap. One day, perhaps this vision will become a reality. Until then, Tutu Tuesday is my own little dance party. A bit further down the street, I come across a community garden. Lush greenery surrounds me, a kaleidoscope of vibrant flowers. Here, in this peaceful space, the air smells like fresh soil and blooming flowers, a perfect spot for a gentle arabesque and a twirl under the sun. You just know those garden fairies will love it! My Tutu Tuesday adventure continues at the Kapunda Art Centre, a modern and beautiful space with a passion for showcasing local talent. It's buzzing with creativity, the vibrant colours and intriguing artworks creating a fantastic backdrop for a quick ballet inspired shoot. The gallery reflects the spirit of the town – vibrant, artistic, and full of life. And with my tutu flowing, I blend into the scene beautifully, just another piece of art in this beautiful space. Now, no Tutu Tuesday is complete without some delicious local fare. Thankfully, Kapunda has plenty to offer. I grab a delicious salad with roasted vegetables from 'The Farm Table', a delightful cafe brimming with delicious and fresh ingredients. As I eat, I people-watch – every person passing by adds to the tapestry of the town. It’s a vibrant mix of locals and tourists, each carrying a unique story. My imagination weaves a ballet inspired tale out of each individual. The young boy on his scooter, a dancer leaping through the streets. The elderly lady sitting on the bench, a graceful ballerina poised in repose. Even the local stray cat, a feline virtuoso performing an elegant ballet. In this beautiful place, Tutu Tuesday takes on a new dimension, making the ordinary extraordinary. Tutu Tuesdays in Kapunda are more than just a fashion statement – they’re about embracing joy, individuality, and a dash of magic. As I walk along the town's peaceful streets, the last golden rays of the day painting the sky in hues of orange and pink, I'm reminded that every day can be a Tutu Tuesday, a reminder to embrace the little things, let your inner dancer shine, and dance through life with a smile. So, here's to more Tutu Tuesdays, and to all of you gorgeous souls who find joy in a little twirl!
