Tutu Tuesday in Deloraine, Tasmania: A Celebration of Twirling and #tututuesday

G'day, darlings! It's your gal, Tilly, back with another post, and this time, we're taking a trip down to the Apple Isle.

If you follow my Insta, you'll know my love affair with the tutu goes way back. I'm not just talking about those froofy, frilly, romantic ones you see in *Swan Lake* – although let's be honest, I have a bit of a weakness for a good, full-bodied Romantic tutu, especially when paired with the right diamond necklace! – I love 'em all! From the chic, streamlined contemporary styles that move with such grace and fluidity to the classic, practical rehearsal tutu. You could say I'm a bit of a tutu enthusiast!

This past week, I had the incredible opportunity to attend a Tutu Tuesday event in Deloraine, Tasmania. What’s a Tutu Tuesday you ask? It's a monthly get-together organised by the local ballet school for all ages. The whole town turns out - mums, daughters, even the occasional grandpa! They don tutus in a kaleidoscope of colors, they dance in the streets, and it’s basically an absolute hoot. And I’m so glad to be sharing the experience with you!

So, how did I end up in Deloraine? Well, let me tell you. It started with a spontaneous road trip. A weekend getaway, if you will! I was craving some fresh air and a change of scenery. Having never ventured to Tassie before (and only vaguely recalling the map of the state!), I decided to explore a bit! One thing led to another, and somehow I found myself attending this magnificent, joyous Tutu Tuesday event!

What really took my breath away about Deloraine's Tutu Tuesday was the inclusivity of it. I don’t usually talk about this, but sometimes as a ballerina (or a girl who loves ballerinas), I get a little… you know… insecure about fitting in or belonging, like my passions don’t matter. There were little kids and older ladies, men in tutus (oh yeah!), and I was totally at ease in that atmosphere, surrounded by like-minded souls. Honestly, you could tell everyone was so relaxed, enjoying themselves, and that they were all, simply put, thrilled to be involved with ballet, however that was expressed. From the novice first-timers who were having their very first twirls to seasoned ballet pros who were taking to the stage – we were all united by this love of movement, music and tutus! It was heartwarming. And as they say down under: truly, ‘the best!’

I couldn’t resist putting on my favorite *Giselle* tutu – just a touch of romance! The feel of it – the fabric, the volume, the little touches - was so magical! I mean, just saying, you guys, a good tutu can make you feel like a true queen! Even in this quirky little town – Deloraine, what a cute name, I just have to say - I couldn’t resist channeling my inner princess (well, more of a ballerine)! You can probably find pictures of the whole experience in my Instagram. Don't forget to give me a follow!

As the sun set on our delightful day, I couldn’t help but reflect on the beauty of the entire day. Not just on the beautiful surroundings, the delicious food and drinks – I mean, who wouldn’t love a local brew after a dance in a tutu?– but mostly the sheer delight of being surrounded by individuals that truly value and celebrate art. I knew that day, as a dancer and #tututuesday fanatic, I'd never forget Tutu Tuesday in Deloraine.

So, my darlings, wherever you are, if you’re craving a bit of something special, if your inner ballerine needs to unleash a bit of joy or just if you simply feel like a twirl, head out to the nearest ballet class – and if there isn't one in your neck of the woods… Well, maybe start one yourself! Who knows, you might be the catalyst for #tututuesday to spread throughout Australia, if not the entire world! Or just find yourself a #tututuesday local event. The beauty of ballet and the fun of #tututuesday is that you don't need any particular experience - just your lovely, beautiful self – and, of course, your amazing tutu!

Tips for Your #tututuesday Adventure

  • Always, always wear comfy shoes! I learned that the hard way… A tutu and killer heels don’t mix!
  • Dance like nobody’s watching – you won’t regret it. It’s your day to enjoy and express your creative self – nobody else's.
  • Be yourself, my darling. That is what #tututuesday is all about.
  • Wear what you want! Your heart and your closet are your only guides – there is no #tututuesday style guide (yet! I should probably get working on one).
  • And have fun, darling! That’s the point of the whole shebang!

And as always, you know you can follow me on Insta for a backstage peek at all the fun adventures (or follow my blog!). Cheers to tutu’s and good times, my darlings, and #tututuesday, especially!

Love and happy twirling, Tilly x
