Tutu Tuesday in Merbein, Victoria: A Tutu-tastic Time!

Hey beautifuls! It’s your girl, Maddie, here from Dance with Maddie, back with another fab fashion-forward post! This time, I'm trading my usual street style for something a little bit more, shall we say, “en pointe”. I'm talking Tutu Tuesday! Now, for those of you who haven’t hopped on board this brilliant trend, it’s all about rocking your best tutu on the second Tuesday of every month! I love this excuse to bring some extra sass to the day!

Merbein, Victoria was the setting for this Tutu Tuesday extravaganza, and boy, did we deliver! Picture this: sunshine streaming through the leaves of the picturesque Merbein Park, the air filled with the happy chatter of tutu-clad locals, and, of course, myself, spinning in a perfectly pink, tulle-tastic creation.

I chose to showcase the iconic Romantic Tutu style for this day! Think billowing, dreamy tulle layers - the very epitome of ballerina grace! A modern update on the traditional romantic tutu, mine boasted a dazzling hand-beaded embellishment that glimmered in the afternoon light, a touch of subtle sparkle that reflected the vibrancy of the community here! You’ll find me dancing with it every chance I get.

Speaking of the Merbein community, the enthusiasm for Tutu Tuesday was phenomenal! I encountered a whole spectrum of styles and personalities, showcasing just how versatile a tutu truly is. A few of the lovely ladies in attendance told me about their personal inspirations. Here's what caught my eye:

  • My bestie, Chloe, sported a super-fun, modern take on the tutu. She rocked a black tulle number with silver sequin accents – all about the "edgy chic" vibe.
  • The sweetest granny, Margaret, told me how she loves tutu-ing for her local ballet group! They had a delightful performance planned that evening, featuring a mix of whimsical tutus that celebrated the history of ballet! They rocked out in traditional "sock" tutus – so perfectly short – and classic "pancake" tutus with their layered tiers. Oh, the nostalgia!

Seeing Margaret reminded me how important it is to make ballet accessible to all! Ballet in Australia has been making huge strides in embracing diversity, challenging stereotypes and breaking down those old-fashioned walls. Merbein, with its open hearts and open minds, definitely embodied that spirit.

There was even a young couple, David and Jess, sporting matching "Tutu-gether Forever" slogans on their tutus! They were full of life, even bringing a custom-made mini tutu for their baby!

Speaking of little ones, they certainly stole the show. Seeing a young ballerina twirl with her little tutus in tow – oh, it’s pure magic!

To capture the spirit of the day, I had a professional photographer snap a few pics (be sure to check out my Instagram @dancewithmaddie!) We managed to capture that playful, energetic vibe - all about spreading joy and positivity.

To close the day, we hosted a quick impromptu tutu workshop in the park! From how to tie your ribbons and properly choose your tulle length to learning some fun dance moves, everyone participated.

I’m already dreaming about the next #tututuesday in Merbein and can't wait to see what creative tutus you guys are gonna be sporting next month.

Till then, happy twirling!
