Tutu Tuesday in Bonville, New South Wales: A Celebration of the Classic & the Cutting Edge

Hey, tutu lovers! It's your girl, Lily, back with another #tututuesday post, and this time, we're bringing the twirls to the beautiful Bonville, NSW! I know what you're thinking – Bonville? Not exactly the epicentre of the ballet world, right? Well, hold on to your tutus, because we're about to show you how this little gem in the New South Wales countryside is embracing the magic of ballet and all its fabulous finery.

For those who haven't heard, Bonville is a gorgeous coastal town tucked away on the North Coast of NSW, famous for its stunning beaches and relaxed, laid-back vibes. And guess what? They’ve got a thriving little community theatre where local talents – both big and small – gather to put on spectacular shows, including the occasional ballet production.

Now, let's talk tutus, because that's what Tutu Tuesday is all about! It’s no secret that when it comes to ballet costumes, the tutu is the undisputed queen. There’s something about that whimsical, graceful shape, the swirling layers of tulle, the way it dances in the air…it's just pure magic! But have you ever noticed how much variety there is within the world of tutus?

Think about it – there’s the classic romantic tutu, with its multiple layers of soft, billowing tulle. Then there's the “pancake” tutu, so called for its flat, round shape that's often used for neo-classical choreography. And for the modern-day, avant-garde ballets, you'll find all sorts of amazing and innovative designs pushing the boundaries of what a tutu can be – think intricate asymmetrical layers, daring sculptural forms, even tutus made from materials that aren't traditionally tulle!

I just love that a tutu can tell a whole story without a single word. A ballerina’s choice of tutu can add so much to a performance – from a feeling of romantic dreamscapes, to playful, lighthearted joy, and everything in between.

The Bonville community theatre show I went to was a real eye-opener! There were a bunch of talented youngsters performing in a classical ballet – the kind that just makes you swoon! It’s wonderful to see the joy and passion these kids have for ballet. You can see they understand the power of the tutu – how it transforms them on stage and makes them believe anything is possible.

If you’re looking to check out the next big ballet event in Bonville – or if you’re simply yearning for a bit of creative inspiration – I encourage you to head over to the Bonville Community Theatre's website! They put on all sorts of performances, so there’s something for everyone.

While we're on the topic of ballet in Australia, it’s definitely an art form that’s flourishing! From Melbourne’s renowned Australian Ballet to Sydney’s highly-regarded Dance Theatre of Sydney, there’s a lot to discover. Of course, you don’t have to travel to a major city to see brilliant ballet, as our little community theatre in Bonville proves!

For the rest of you, remember to get your #tututuesday pics out there and let's celebrate all things tutu! Tag me in your pics! I can’t wait to see your creative, fun, and fiercely stylish tutu moments.

Keep it classy and keep on twirling!

Love, Lily
