Tutu Tuesday in Boonah, Queensland: A Tutu Tale for the Ages

Hey girlies! It's your girl, Clara, back with another post, this time celebrating all things tutu-tastic for #tututuesday! As you all know, I'm a passionate ballet dancer, living and breathing pirouettes and plies right here in sunny Queensland. And what better way to embrace my love for the art than with a weekly dose of tutus?

This week, I decided to bring the Tutu Tuesday festivities to Boonah, Queensland. It's a quaint little town with a charm all its own. Now, you might be wondering what a ballet dancer is doing in Boonah. Well, it all started with my grandma's antique shop. You see, she collects all sorts of fascinating things - furniture, ceramics, and believe it or not, vintage ballet costumes. There are so many amazing tutu styles there – from the fluffy romantic tutu to the more practical, streamlined contemporary tutu. Imagine finding an authentic Victorian-era tutu hidden amongst the china and vintage teacups!

Anyway, she decided to host a Tutu Tuesday market day to celebrate her amazing collection. The streets of Boonah were flooded with tutu-clad folk, and there was a whole vibe going on. Seriously, it was the best! Imagine – cute little shops selling delicious pies, craft stalls offering handmade wares, all while I was twirling around in my granny's 1920s tutu, doing impromptu ballet demos for anyone who was interested. And let me tell ya, folks, the Boonah crowd was super into it!

The highlight was a tutu-making workshop with a talented seamstress. We learned the basics of constructing these beauties from scratch, which included using the correct fabrics for tutus like tulle and organza and how to create that perfect whimsical shape with the help of strategically placed ruffles. This wasn’t your usual ballet class!

Boonah's Tutu Tuesday truly captured the spirit of community and artistic expression. It's a reminder that even in the smallest of towns, the magic of ballet can spark joy and laughter.

It wasn't all about dancing. The day was packed with a whole bunch of activities to get involved in:

  • A fashion show featuring the amazing vintage tutus from Granny’s shop
  • A Tutu-themed bake-off competition - the prize was a tutu made just for the winner by the seamstress
  • Live music – the band even played “Swan Lake” and “The Nutcracker Suite" on their fiddles and banjo. A great touch of ballet!
  • A special photo booth set up with tulle and feathers to get the perfect Instagram pics

You know me, I’ve always got to share my tips and tricks for getting the best #tututuesday look:

  • Pick a tutu style that makes you feel amazing - whether you're rocking the classic Romantic or going for the more edgy modern tutu. Confidence is key!
  • Accessorize! From sparkly headbands to elegant pearl necklaces, let your inner ballerina shine !
  • Get those twirls perfect! The best tutu looks always involve a touch of movement.
  • Don’t forget a cute little ballet-themed bag – a tote with a ballerina emblem, or one covered in ballerina pictures!

I'm all about making tutu Tuesdays a regular event here in Queensland, spreading the tutu love from Boonah to all the towns and cities around the state! Imagine a whole State of Tutu Tuesdays. It could happen!

And now, girlies, I want to hear from you! What's your favorite tutu style? What does #tututuesday mean to you? Leave a comment below and let's keep the tutu party going!

Lots of love and twirls,

Clara xoxo
