Bulwell Gets Tutu-licious: My Tutu Tuesday Adventure
Well, my lovelies, the day has arrived: Tutu Tuesday in Bulwell. If you know me, then you know I live for this glorious occasion, every week! Yes, Tutu Tuesday in Bulwell is no ordinary day – it’s an explosion of tulle, a celebration of dance and an excuse for us tutu enthusiasts to let our inner prima ballerinas out. And you can bet your bottom dollar, I am always here, front and centre. But, there was something different about this week, I just felt like my creative spirit needed a bit of a challenge! Maybe it’s the cooler Autumn air that’s had my imagination flowing with inspiration! It's almost as if Bulwell was waiting for something extra fabulous!
This week I really felt the urge to explore my creativity. What is it about a classic, traditional ballet tutu that evokes an image of a 'graceful and effortless dance' that truly just does not represent us in the modern age, does it? Yes, my fellow ballet enthusiasts, the timeless silhouette of a tutu is what inspires the 'grand jeté' -the 'piqué' - even a 'grand battement' , it really does define elegance...but, I'm craving a more modern twist on the classic design. How about adding some bold splashes of colour to break up those traditionally soft colours like pastels? Why not embrace the textures, embrace the statement fabric choices to reflect who we really are?! Well, after pondering this long and hard on my way to the coffee shop this morning - this is the answer that I found!
Instead of reaching for my classic white and blush-toned tulle - I decided to opt for a much more modern interpretation! There it was in all its glory, right at the bottom of the wardrobe - my 'Peacock tutu' ! I am not talking about your standard peacock tutu – this is my little secret! The first time I laid my eyes on this beauty, it was like destiny. And, oh yes, it is worth writing home about! It has layers of delicate lilac and deep royal blue and shimmering metallic gold tulle, creating a stunning gradient effect as it swishes (you know the feeling, ladies?).
With my peacock tutu strategically positioned, ready to stun the audience in the 'Dance Zone' of Bulwell (as it's commonly known amongst us dancers and by everyone, for that matter!) - now it was time to make it feel truly 'me'. And for that? I chose a statement-making black body-suit with shimmering diamante details, (my signature piece), along with some 'bling' to complement those colours - (all my secrets are coming out!). This outfit was just oozing with confidence! I just knew it was going to create the kind of style statements that really 'strut my stuff'!
I am here to tell you now, this little black body-suit is everything. So chic, so stylish and so sophisticated. Plus, let's be honest, if we are going to strut around in tulle all day – comfort needs to be on our list, too! Luckily for you and me, it ticked every box - both comfort and style - I am already making notes in my style book about where to get some more.
When you live in Bulwell you need to be ready for whatever comes your way – it’s about blending in but also making a statement. Sometimes you feel like wearing your 'Classic Tulle Tutu' - then again there are those moments, like this morning when you want to feel your best with an ensemble like mine - the more out-there-style- queen - there are endless opportunities in the dance world of Bulwell! Let’s just say, there are never a dull moment.
Bulwell’s dance scene is truly amazing and it has a very special place in my heart, but don’t think that the ballet dancers and choreographers of Bulwell are sitting still! If you want your style inspiration, the dancers here know how to 'turn it up'!
Here's a breakdown of how Tutu Tuesday in Bulwell usually plays out:
- First off, the warm-up in the Bulwell market square - this is where we let the fun begin and we can all practice our moves to a banging sound-track – this week I was in the mood for a mix of hip hop and some pop anthems. A big thumbs-up to the DJ who gave us the dance-floor groove! You could feel the atmosphere – even the 'shop owners' were shaking their heads to the rhythm.
- And then there’s the grand performance! The atmosphere at the dance zone in Bulwell is electric. The market square is transformed into a vibrant hub of swirling tulle and graceful moves as dancers from across the town showcase their talents and create a captivating dance spectacular.
- This Tuesday we also enjoyed the unique and stylish twist of 'The Dance Off'! - which is a new dance battle that lets anyone join in and show their moves! Yes, that's right, there's nothing quite like a little dance battle to spice up Tutu Tuesday! From the newest dancer to the seasoned pro - anyone can take to the 'battleground'! A fun way for new dancers to take center stage - all with that Tutu magic. We really are such a unique community – welcoming everyone with open arms, that is what it is all about – spreading the joy!
- Now this brings me to my favourite part of the day – our amazing and much-loved local dance tutor. I can't rave about him enough! He's like the master of his domain and teaches everyone in the community. This dance community wouldn't be as vibrant and exciting without the amazing tutor – let’s be real he keeps everyone on the move!
I just wanted to end my #tututuesday story by saying it is something that anyone should experience - whatever your age, or your dancing abilities, embrace that 'tutu' style and go and make some magical memories at this awesome dance zone - I promise you won't regret it, trust me!
