Gowrie Junction, Queensland: Tutu Tuesday Takes Over!

It's officially Tutu Tuesday, darlings! As a ballerina with a penchant for fashion, I simply had to jump at the chance to celebrate this glorious day in my favourite city, Gowrie Junction. From classic tulle to playful tutus, it's a day to embrace the spirit of ballet in all its colourful glory.

Walking down the main street of Gowrie Junction, I spotted the most amazing array of tutus. Imagine a rainbow of colours: vibrant pinks, bold blues, elegant blacks and everything in between. I saw tutus adorned with sparkling sequins, graceful ribbons, and even a few with cheeky little fairy wings. The creativity and joy emanating from each one was contagious!

One little lass, about eight years old, had her Tutu Tuesday look perfected! Her tiny pink tutu was adorned with a bright, glittery rainbow. Her pink bow, the colour of a perfect strawberry ice cream, was placed strategically on the crown of her blonde hair. As she twirled and pirouetted on the sidewalk, it felt like magic! And don't even get me started on the sheer brilliance of seeing an elderly gentleman rock a Tutu Tuesday. A tutu, let's just say, a majestic white tutu, was flowing as he did a little jig on his way to the post office! He had me giggling and clapping like a school kid at the panto!

Here are just some of my fave Tutu Tuesday fashion finds from around Gowrie Junction, Queensland:

  • The Classic Tutu: This timeless piece is the perfect starting point for any tutu-inspired look. It's simple, elegant, and can be dressed up or down. A great one I saw today was in a gorgeous dark charcoal. There were feathers, like tiny little wispy clouds, attached to the bottom hem, a super stylish way to elevate a classic. I spied one lady pairing it with a classic black cocktail dress - it's the epitome of feminine chic. #tututuesday
  • The Romantic Tutu: Gowns flowing down to your feet - imagine them in soft floral fabrics like delicate silks and sheer chiffons and accented by flowing ribbons or a charming bow. For a more fairytale-esque approach, look for a romantic tutu with tulle overlays or a sweet pastel palette. The lady I spotted with a huge billowing one of those wore a delicate lilac tutu that whispered romanticism and just made me long to do some gentle adagio and port de bras - she must have been a ballerina herself, once.
  • The Bold Tutu: If you're feeling adventurous, a bold tutu is for you. Choose bright, daring colors, whimsical patterns, or statement designs that will stand out from the crowd. I even saw one lady sporting a vibrant, fuchsia-hued tutu, the kind you’d expect to see a showgirl sporting, teamed with a leather biker jacket - I think they might be going for an '80s pop-diva vibe! A real modern day Tutu Tuesday interpretation.
  • The Everyday Tutu: Don't think of tutus as being only for special occasions! This is one of the fun things about the #tututuesday concept. An everyday tutu is versatile enough for a picnic, coffee catch up with the girls, or even a walk to the shops. I think there are a couple of boutiques and gift shops in Gowrie Junction that do this amazing little pastel tulle skirt that really would fit that bill perfectly - great for an every-day, practical look that you could then style up with other accessories if the situation calls for a more special occasion.

This whole Tutu Tuesday thing just goes to show that we, here in Australia, embrace fun and self-expression with a joyous abandon. This year's #tututuesday has been more magical and uplifting than ever - I feel a wave of creativity that reminds me of why I chose the ballet - its graceful spirit is alive and kicking in the streets of Gowrie Junction. Keep spreading those tutus and let’s celebrate a day that brings out the joy in all of us!.
