Tutu Tuesday in Wentworth, New South Wales: A Celebration of Twirls and Tradition #tututuesday

G'day fellow tutu lovers! It's your girl, Chloe, here from the Sydney Dance Academy, bringing you all the latest news on the fabulous world of tutus! This Tuesday, I was struttin' my stuff down Wentworth Street in a vibrant, custom-made tutu, just begging for the wind to catch it and send it swirling around me! As you know, a tutu is more than just a costume; it's a symbol of grace, artistry, and passion for ballet. This little tulle dream makes my heart flutter every time I put it on, reminding me of all the beautiful stories I get to tell with my dancing.

Let's talk tutus for a sec! This Tuesday, I went for a **classic Romantic tutu**, the kind with a short, layered skirt and a fitted bodice. A romantic tutu is a beautiful expression of delicate grace and light movement, reminiscent of ballerinas from the Romantic period like Marie Taglioni. But Wentworth, we have a whole wardrobe of stunning tutus to choose from! From the majestic **poised tutu**, perfect for showcasing athletic leaps and pirouettes, to the breathtaking **pancake tutu**, where you feel like you’re floating through the air in a perfectly-balanced circle of tulle. There's something for every style and story!

Did you know the tutu is relatively new to ballet? While we know the traditional "ballet" styles that are common today, did you know, that it didn't always have tutus! The first time a tutu-like garment was worn on stage was by Marie Taglioni in 1832 in "La Sylphide." She debuted a lightweight, romantic garment, showcasing graceful movement that went against the bulky skirts of that era.

But enough about history. Let's talk fashion! As an Aussie girl living in Sydney, the sun's always shining. For Wentworth Tuesday, my pick for #tututuesday was a dazzling pastel **pastel romantic tutu**. With the vibrant pink and purple of a gorgeous summer sunset. The light tulle, paired with a comfortable bodice with beautiful diamond accents, made it the perfect mix of airy and elegant! And the colours complimented my skin tone beautifully! This little piece was so eye-catching, even the postie was stopping for photos as I swirled through my local streets in Wentworth!

Speaking of street style, Wentworth is known for its quirky energy! It's not uncommon to spot a little creative spark on the street, whether it's a vintage clothing shop tucked away, an elaborate mural, or of course, someone rocking a tutu! On #tututuesday I loved the vibe from everyone out on the streets from a grandma in matching green shoes and tutu to the cheeky bunch of kids heading for their ballet class. It’s a constant reminder that the magic of dance truly knows no boundaries.

But let’s not just talk about street style in Wentworth. In Australia, our dancers have the chance to showcase their talent and flaunt some gorgeous costumes from the national Ballet in Sydney through to Perth and beyond! From the stunning outfits on the stage of The Australian Ballet to the dynamic productions at Sydney Dance Company, our dancers are constantly innovating the classic tutu! Did you know the classic ballet look from “The Sleeping Beauty” or “Swan Lake” often incorporates **tulle overskirt** into the tutu.

I remember one particular production of "The Nutcracker," where the dancers wore shimmering silver **bodices**, that gave the effect of sparkling snowflakes as they moved, which really highlighted their graceful movements against dark backdrops. So much beauty in dance! And each dance costume comes with its own set of requirements. For the ballerinas in my studio, they need to be comfortable to move around, flexible for complex dance steps, and elegant enough for the big stages of Australia's biggest dance competitions! It's always an inspiring spectacle when they take to the stage!

This year in Sydney and across Australia, we have seen so many exciting new ballet performances and tours. But nothing tops #tututuesday for giving me that feeling of community and sharing a love of this artform. Whether you're a professional ballerina, an amateur dancer, or just a lover of tutus, be sure to join the #tututuesday movement in Wentworth and beyond! Snap a pic, share it on social media, and tag me! You might just find yourself on the next feature here! And for our lovely ladies who want to try something different next #tututuesday but aren't keen to bust out the full tutu... try a cute skirt or a dress with a light and swirly feel!

This week we have a ton to celebrate in our dance community, including the annual Dance Festival, a massive community gathering of all sorts of dance! From ballet to tap, hip-hop, modern and everything in-between! Wentworth is really buzzing, and it starts at 8 pm at the local theatre and goes late into the night!

Now, I'm off to practice! Remember, it's never too late to start your journey with dance, so head to a studio near you or sign up for online lessons! Don't be shy. Who knows, you might just end up on a #tututuesday feature one day! Till then, stay twirly and always be beautiful. Ciao!
