Tutu Tuesday in Batlow, New South Wales: #tututuesday

Hey darlings! It’s your girl, Ellie, back with another fab instalment of Tutu Tuesday. Today we’re taking a trip out of the city to Batlow, New South Wales, to experience the magic of ballet in the bush! Now, if you’re anything like me, you probably imagine the ‘bush’ as more dusty roads and sheep than pointe shoes and tutus. But I’m here to tell you that this little town has a big heart for dance, and its tucked away local dance studio has been a haven for dancers in the area for generations.

Walking into the studio was a blast from the past – I felt like I was stepping back into a bygone era, and that’s a good thing! I mean, who doesn't love a little bit of nostalgia? The walls were lined with black and white photos of past performances, each one filled with a story that’s waiting to be told. The barres were worn with years of dedication, and there were a few cracks in the wooden floor that reminded me of the stories I'd heard about my grandma's ballroom days.

But despite the charmingly old-fashioned decor, I was completely wowed by the dancers' talent! They were a mix of ages, but their love for ballet shone through. The younger dancers, still fresh-faced and brimming with excitement, twirled and leapt in their crisp white tutus with such vibrant energy! They truly looked like little fairies. They were like the young students of today with their perfect buns and basic ballet tutus that never really went out of style.

As the afternoon wore on, the older dancers joined in, their tutus beautifully soft with delicate lace, reminiscent of the romance and sophistication of classic tutus. I watched as their experience helped shape their graceful moves - it’s so inspiring to witness passion that lasts a lifetime. These ladies were like modern-day ballerinas who’d honed their skills into a smooth blend of elegance and finesse - not a single movement wasted. I loved the different styles and interpretations they brought to each piece – the beauty of ballet really knows no age limit.

There were plenty of stunningly crafted pointe shoes on the floor, all of them ready to be slipped on, bringing my memories of all the battles and triumphs I’d encountered in my own pointe shoes. Every shoe was a unique blend of worn velvet and stretched satin with its own personal tale.

I saw the tutus being prepped with loving care after the classes were finished. As an avid fan of tutus (who isn’t?), I felt inspired! The passion, joy and talent here are real, a truly powerful testament to the transformative power of ballet – no matter where you are. Even tucked away in Batlow.

So, as a message to everyone out there: if you haven't been to a ballet studio, get yourself there! I promise, there's something special about it! Let's all keep those tutus twirling, darlings!
