Tutu Tuesday in Geeveston, Tasmania: #tututuesday

Hey fellow dance lovers! It’s your girl, Tilly here, back with another #tututuesday post! Today we’re heading down to Geeveston in the beautiful Tasmanian wilderness to explore a side of ballet that’s as wild and stunning as the scenery itself!

Geeveston’s known for its tranquility, its stunning scenery, its proximity to the stunning Huon Valley, and of course its incredible connection with the natural world! So, what better place to celebrate #tututuesday than right here?

We’re taking tutu appreciation to a new level today. We're diving deep into the history and art of this iconic garment and celebrating it all over Geeveston. Who knew this little town had a vibrant hidden world of tutus? Get ready for some serious #tututuesday inspiration!

Now, Geeveston isn't exactly the ballet capital of Australia (we're all about those Sydney Opera House grand premieres), but there’s a real sense of artistry that shines through the local communities. We’re taking #tututuesday outside the usual ballet studios. We're finding those unique, individual styles. I'm even picking up a couple of tricks from the local artisans, a truly Geeveston experience. We're breaking out the **romantic tutu**, the classic **white tutu** and those **modern asymmetrical t**utus that just get your heart racing, they’re taking a whole new spin with a beautiful Tassie twist.

You know, being a ballerina is about more than pirouettes and graceful steps (although let’s not forget those!), it’s about exploring and understanding ourselves and our world through movement and creativity. This tiny town has a huge amount of that!

And it’s this exploration and self-expression that truly defines our love for the tutu. They’re much more than garments, they’re extensions of the dancer’s self – a symbol of grace and power.

So where have we been searching for this hidden world of tutu in Geeveston? Let’s take a walk around town!

Here's the Tutu Trail!
  • Geeveston School of Arts: They’ve been having a right old blast celebrating #tututuesday! From their school play inspired **classic white tutu**, all those elegant lines, to some truly amazing, quirky costumes. It seems like Geeveston loves its costumes! They even took inspiration from the iconic **black tulle tutus** we saw in the Australian Ballet’s *The Nutcracker* a few years back!
  • The Geeveston Garden Club. Oh, it's all about a lush celebration here! They took tutu inspiration from nature - from the flowers themselves and we were delighted to see **pastel coloured tutus** reminiscent of springtime blooms in the Garden Club’s incredible flower shows and art displays! And let me tell you - their love for detail and creativity is just incredible!
  • Geeveston Vintage Shop: This little gem had the most charming display! With those **soft pink t**utus from an era gone by and **vibrant red t**utus, straight out of the 60s, they're like steps right back into a vintage ballet performance! We got a real sense of how the tutu has evolved in different periods and it was so inspiring!
  • The Geeveston Craft Market: I've discovered such incredible artists in the region who work with fabrics, leather and ceramics and their passion for expressing themselves through the handmade. There were those gorgeous handcrafted tutus that reminded me of the traditional designs - **single layers**, with minimal adornment, focusing on the delicate flow of the movement - all about highlighting the beauty of simple lines. There were also some **show-stopping tutus** inspired by the colours and textures of nature. They’re like walking pieces of art - each detail has such intentionality and care!
  • Geeveston Coffee and Cake: It's not just the delicious pies (I mean, how good are they, truly, iconic) – there's a touch of ballerina magic sprinkled through Geeveston’s community. Just a tip for my fellow dance fans. I saw a couple of women making a tutu out of some leftover cafe scraps, talk about the height of #tututuesday inspiration. You can do that! That’s where the spirit of this day really shines – you never know where you'll find that next spark of creativity. It’s in the cafe, in the streets, in the flowers and in the air – it's everywhere in Geeveston. And we’re embracing it.

From the craft studios and cafes to the gardens and community events, there’s such a wonderful, vibrant atmosphere around here – that’s what #tututuesday is all about! Bringing people together and encouraging the artistic spark that resides within each one of us.

And as you’re heading into Geeveston, do take the time to appreciate the beauty that surrounds this town, the landscape, the natural beauty, and most of all – the spirit of creativity that pulses throughout.

That’s the wrap for my #tututuesday adventure in Geeveston! Till next time, don’t be afraid to express your love for the tutu and let those dance vibes flow!

Signing out,

Tilly.
