Gundaroo, NSW: Tutu Tuesday Takes Flight!

G'day, fellow dance enthusiasts! This Aussie ballerina is on a mission to bring a touch of tulle to every corner of the country. And today, my #Tututuesday adventure takes me to the charming little town of Gundaroo in New South Wales. This picturesque place with its charming heritage is the perfect backdrop for a Tutu Tuesday celebration!

Now, let's be real, I've seen some incredible Tutu Tuesdays across Sydney and Melbourne. But this one is truly unique. Imagine this – the dusty red earth of Gundaroo, the rolling green hills of the surrounding countryside, and a whole community coming together to celebrate dance and fashion!

Gundaroo, a ballet haven? You betcha! I was blown away by the local enthusiasm. These guys are passionate about ballet, even if they haven't twirled in years!

It all began at the Gundaroo Community Centre. We're talking a lively crowd – grandmas with a twinkle in their eyes, young kids with energy to spare, and a whole bunch of folks in between, all decked out in their finest tutus! From classic white tutus that exuded an ethereal beauty to bright, flamboyant ones bursting with color – this is where style met the countryside!

From Tutu Twirls to Ballet Workshops

  • First up, a mass Tutu Twirl! We gathered on the lawn, a sea of pink, purple, and peach swirling against the blue sky. We learned the most basic ballet movements, and while some were naturally graceful, others were delightfully clumsy, and that’s what made it so much fun!
  • The afternoon saw the stage of the Community Centre transform into a ballet studio. Local ballet teacher Ms. Penelope (who's taught ballet for over 30 years in Gundaroo) led a fantastic workshop for both young and old. From perfecting pliés to mastering grand jetés, the energy was infectious. The air was filled with the joyous sounds of clapping and laughter.
  • Of course, no Tutu Tuesday is complete without some scrumptious snacks! Gundaroo is renowned for its homemade cakes and pies. It's a town that embraces its local community.
  • Where Fashion Meets Country

You know me – a ballerina who loves fashion, especially tutu style. From romantic to playful, there's a tutu style for everyone! In Gundaroo, I discovered some delightful fashion finds that totally reflected the Aussie spirit! I'm talking:

    • Classic Ballet Tutus: These are the iconic silhouettes we all know and love - the ethereal wisps of tulle, perfectly sewn, and ready to take you on a pirouette journey.
    • Australian Bush Tutus: The local crafters here took tutu design to a new level – think earthy brown hues inspired by gum leaves, delicate touches of yellow like wattle flowers, and maybe even a touch of Aboriginal dot art, just to spice things up!
    • Country Chic Tutus: Let’s face it, denim jackets, flannies, and boots are a part of the Aussie lifestyle. Pairing these with a beautiful tulle tutu is both playful and elegant – like the Aussie spirit itself!
      • From Sydney’s Stages to Gundaroo’s Heart

As a professional ballerina in Sydney, I get to experience the grandeur of the Sydney Opera House, but there’s something special about celebrating ballet in a small town like Gundaroo. You really see the passion for art and culture shining through, and it's a joy to witness that. It's just beautiful. It's reminding everyone to tap into their inner ballerina!

I can't wait to see what other Aussie towns get in on the #Tututuesday action next. Maybe next we'll be celebrating in a cozy beachside town or a bustling outback city. It's all part of making ballet more accessible and spreading the joy of dance across the country!
