Tutu Tuesday in Birmingham: A Whirlwind of Feathers, Frills, and Fabric

Oh, Birmingham, you know how to do a #TutTuesday right! As a ballet dancer and someone who knows a thing or two about tutus, it’s been an absolute joy to see how this city embraces the power and joy of the tutu. Let me tell you, Tutu Tuesday has become a spectacle like no other. It's like a balletic invasion, but with less pointe shoes and more champagne. Honestly, what could be better?

So, I roamed around Birmingham's cultural haven, capturing the spirit of Tutu Tuesday in all its glory. From the classic, traditional tulle tutues worn by the elegant ladies enjoying their lunch at The Old Joint Stock, to the audacious mini tutus worn with leather jackets and chunky boots spotted outside the Custard Factory, this city embraced the trend with fearless style.

Let’s delve deeper into some of the captivating tutu trends I saw, right?

  • The Romantic Ballerina: These were the ones I spotted all around town. The quintessential tutus with layers upon layers of tulle, soft colours and dreamy silhouettes. From classic pinks to airy whites, these tutus radiated a pure ballet fairytale. Imagine being at the Royal Ballet with the whole place just for you - a perfect moment for these classic styles.
  • The Modern Rebel: The streets pulsed with a bold and dramatic twist. Think fierce mini tutus worn with attitude - sleek tops, chunky jewellery, and even some of those stylish bomber jackets - it’s just a bit different to the norm. A true tribute to ballet and contemporary style coming together as one!
  • The Glitterati Glamour: And then there were those who turned up the volume on the glitz and glamour with their tutus. It’s easy to look glam in a full length tulle skirt - but it was all the smaller details that made these looks truly stand out, Think sequins, beaded bodices, even a little bit of feather. All these looks shouted "I came to party" - Birmingham knew how to celebrate.
  • The Tutu Trailblazer: Not every tutu has to be ballerina-esque. That’s why I saw bold and beautiful examples of alternative designs – the perfect blend of modern style and the Tutu spirit. From the denim and floral prints to bold colours - these trends were truly inspirational.

One thing that absolutely stole the show was the creativity with which people styled their tutus! You’d see them worn with heels, flats, and even the most unexpected footwear - like boots and sneakers - because, Birmingham doesn’t care about what is "supposed to be" they embrace their style! And let’s not forget the playful tutu accessories. The feathery boas and tiaras, even some elegant finger waves - you just can’t help but smile.

I don't know if it was the atmosphere of excitement or the sheer joy of celebrating tutu love - or both! Tutu Tuesday has been an inspiring display of personal style. More importantly, it proves that you don’t have to be a ballet dancer to feel empowered and glamorous wearing a tutu! It's an experience that will keep my heart skipping like a perfect fouette for days. Birmingham - You are a tutu-wearing inspiration.
