Tutu Tuesday in Vancouver, British Columbia: A Celebration of the Ballet

Hey, dance lovers! It’s your girl, Clara, back with another edition of my blog. It’s Tuesday, and you know what that means? #tututuesday, of course!

Being a ballerina in Vancouver, British Columbia, means I get to dance among some of the most breathtaking scenery. The Pacific Ocean, the snow-capped mountains, and the bustling city skyline – they all inspire me. And you know what else inspires me? Tutus!

Okay, I know, tutus can seem like a bit of a niche topic, but for dancers, it’s an integral part of our lives. From the classic romantic tutu, billowing like a cloud, to the sleek and modern, architectural shapes that can feel more like wearable sculptures, tutus come in all kinds of styles. Each one is a mini-masterpiece, telling its own story, its own kind of dance. And I'm here to share that story with you all!

Here's a little peek at my own tutu wardrobe –

  • The Romantic Tutu: I call this my “Belle du Jour” - classic white layers of tulle, it’s perfect for that delicate, ethereal feeling.
  • The Modern Tutu: There's nothing quite as fierce and dramatic as a modern tutu – Think sharp, geometric lines. For me, that's my "Dark Knight” tutu.
  • The Pointe Tutu: And let’s not forget about pointe tutus. Those are for showcasing serious artistry, right? They’re always in the spotlight when I’m perfecting that balance on pointe.

Okay, so this week's #tututuesday topic – something close to my heart: Celebrating Canadian ballet!

Vancouver's ballet scene is thriving! We've got the renowned Vancouver Ballet Society, and a whole bunch of smaller dance studios churning out some amazing talent. You wouldn't believe the amount of energy and artistry we see on stage – from classic works like "The Nutcracker," to contemporary ballets pushing the boundaries. The energy is electric!

There’s this incredible passion for ballet in Vancouver, and that makes me SO proud. We even have our own special brand of ballet culture! Take our amazing tutus for example. When it comes to tutu styles, Canadian dancers aren’t shy about putting their own flair on it. You see more color and interesting design in the tutus on Vancouver stages compared to other ballet companies. It’s like we’re adding our own kind of urban chic to this already exquisite world of dance.

This love for ballet extends to all over Canada – it’s pretty epic! There are so many inspiring Canadian ballerinas, like our own Veronica Tennant. And so many aspiring dancers just getting started! The passion is contagious. I’m seeing more and more kids coming to dance class every week.

So here's to Tutu Tuesday in Vancouver, British Columbia. A chance for all of us to celebrate this captivating world of ballet!

Share your favorite tutus with me. Let's keep this passion for dance alive and flourishing! #tututuesday #vancouverballet #canadianballet #balletlove
