Tutu Tuesday in Red Deer, Alberta: A Celebration of Ballet and Fashion #tututuesday

Hey dance lovers! It's your girl, Amelia, here, back with another #tututuesday post, and this week we're going to celebrate the classic dance wear, the Tutu! A piece of fashion history that's not only graceful but totally on trend. This week, we’re celebrating all the different types of tutus, from romantic classics to the more contemporary.

And where else to do this than in the gorgeous Red Deer, Alberta? It’s a beautiful city, the heartland of the prairies. I've had the pleasure of spending time there working with the Red Deer Dance Theatre, which is absolutely amazing. And I have to tell you, the passion for ballet and the arts in this city is truly inspiring. It makes me proud to be Canadian! 🇨🇦 I recently visited Red Deer’s beautiful Central Alberta Art Gallery - definitely recommend it!

Tutus have such a beautiful history and there's such a great range of styles out there! The romantic and elegant “classical” tutu, you know the one! This Tutu is a mainstay of traditional ballet pieces with it's billowing tiers and a layered look! Think “Swan Lake" or "Giselle", they're like ballet classics!

But, we don't want to forget about the other awesome styles out there! The contemporary, or “modern,” tutu! This one has a more streamlined and geometric look and feel. These tutus can be a single layer of tulle and even made of unconventional fabrics, like velvet or satin! They definitely feel like an exciting, new, modern approach, don't you think?!

The beauty of the Tutu is its diversity, the versatility that the fabric has is a fashion statement and makes me want to get out there and dance! If you're in the mood for some tutu fun, you can get a great, affordable, and comfortable tutu to wear for a class or to an audition at local stores like the Dance Connection or The Dance Shop here in Red Deer!

Remember, ballet is an important art in our society! Not just in Red Deer, but throughout Canada. It's so great to have such a fantastic art community right in the heart of the prairies, in a city so full of love, and in such a unique city that truly understands how much art impacts the quality of life here! So the next time you’re feeling a little less confident, put on your tutu and let the rhythm of life carry you away!

Stay fabulous, friends!

Love, Amelia.
